Hi all

I just wanted to ask if the IDF used the external rear fuel tanks on there M113's same as the US M113A3.

I have poured over the reference books I have, and it doesn't appear they do, but most of the references I have are off the IDF in the 80's and 90's.

many thanks in advance

cheers

For sure they use them.......in fact I think it was the Israelis that developed them in the first place.

The short bus drop off?

Hey Keith, have you been to this site. It's a great modeling site that will help during your build. As for the external rear fuel tanks...yes they were used. I've built many of the IDF M113's using Verlindens resin sets. I used to have many books but gave them all away to members here.

Which IDF APC you plan on doing.

Happy Holidays,
Joe

First off - Do you have any particular version in mind Keith? Depends on the version in a few cases.
Plain or 'Bardelas' M113's have been seen with them since 1982, here's a few more examples:

Neil-perhaps you could explain your statement better. Are you sure about what the external fuel tanks are? Not trying to be a smart-...a**, but just checking.

thanks Guys for all the replys

I have some how managed to acquire One of AEF designs (I know, before you all start) IDF M-113 reactive armour array sets kit number KI-60. The sets is as expected missing a couple of items but I suspected that when i picked it up, but it will build hopefully into something a little different.

I have a couple of pictures I managed to find via google but they don't show the rear of the vehicle. So knowing the US had upgraded a lot of the M-113 they use to the A3 version with external tanks, I was trying to find out if the IDF had followed suit.

Although looking through the pictures posted there seems to be every version still in use

again many thanks for the replies guys

cheers

I am not sure if the IDF uses A3s or not. The External Fuel Tanks (EFT) were available as part of the A2 upgrades. However, the US Army decided not to buy them though and waited to get the EFTs with the A3 upgrade.

So, there are IDF M113A2 versions with laterals and EFTs running around out there.

Ahh - if it's that one - the so called 'Zelda 2', you're right - there aren't a lot of photos out there. I don't think it's ever been shown conclusively to have the EFT's. This is the only photo I could find from the back.

Thanks Jim

the interesting bit for me in that picture is this bit

I know it is not a rear fuel tank, but it is some form of box with what looks like a jerry can on the side

cheers

Keith

Gary,

Thanks for pointing out that "Hide User" button that I overlooked during the last series of problem postings. It comes in very hand for this thread.
