Looking at the picture I'm thinking the guy might want to look up. Looks to me like about 120 pounds of spare track is getting ready to fall off of the bustle rack and zap him in the peanut. My brother drove an M60A3 into an abandoned, flooded basement at Fort Riley. Pictures look really simular...

The tracks are attached with a track guide link, which is pretty tough, so I doubt it is going to fall, but I think his peanut is already throbbin if he was in the thing when it hapenned, cuz he probably wound up crammed under the main gun.

A cousin of mine had to re-up because he wrecked 2 staff cars in Germany. The perils of being a staff driver.

The first words out of my mouth were OH CRAP!!!. Saw a dear friend of mine take a roll down the hill in Baumholder in a 113. Miracle of miracles other than bruises nobody was hurt. Hopefully the same occured here, but OUCH for both the crew and the track.

Smart tank commanders give their drivers standing orders of "do not take the tank anywhere you don't think it can go, regardless of if I tell you to go there." Follow that up with the warning, "if we get stuck, you get in the mud to hook us up." Saves the tank, the TC and the driver stays careful.
That looks like a fairly easy recovery though.
Standing under the track blocks is pretty stupid though.

can tell who's not a tanker with this line. It's called a center guide. ...a track guide link...

Nothing, it was probably during hours of darkness and the driver was using the night vision scope to drive. Very little depth perception when driving with NVGs. As far as the impact, he is in the best position to to have the least chance of injury. TC will eat the .50 and most likely busted his ribs. What do you suppose happens to the driver in this instance???

Sabot,
The remark about "smart TCs" struck me as funny. My brother kept telling his TC that they were fixin' to hit something and the TC told him to quote "drive." That was early 80's and I guess things have gotten better. Of course, 20 years after the fact my brother's favorite phrase is still FIDO...
