I am trying to find out about thompson ammo pouches and where would they be worn. Would they be worn towards the back, side or chest?
I have tried locating a good picture for reference but no luck either to dark or just no one using a thompson. Any one help out?

Hi Walt
See this image for one reference.
There were 2 different types of pouches ... a five chamber pouch for 20 round mags and a 3 chamber pouch for 30 round mags. Which one are you referring to ....although I think both are worn around the waist.

Hi Walt,
Here's a selection of pics form the net. With the exception of the shoulder bag these would alll appear to have been worn on the waist belt. Photo may be Italy 43.

US Army 5 mag

US Army 3/4 mag (hadn't see one of these before)

USMC 3 mag

Shoulder bag (6 mag/grenades)

Hope that helps

All of the thompson pouches with individual magazine cells were typically worn at the waist. Some would wear them on the side, and others toward the rear. There are some photographs of Overlord era Paratrooper Pathfinder units wearing the 5 cell 20 round pouch on the chest. I suspect that they threaded their load-bearing suspenders through the belt loop of the pouch. I haven't seen anyone other than Pathfinders wearing pouches in this manner. The second style shown by AlanL is a riggers made pouch used by airborne troops. It was also worn at the waist and intended for 20rd. magazines.
