Do the British still use this vehicle and if not can there be any small changes made to make it a modern vehicle (new modern guns)?

Thanks
Evan

I don't think this version was used in front-line units that late. It is a Series IIA Land Rover 109 from the late '60s, as seen in Chad and N. Africa in the configuration Tamiya has it. A similar set-up was used in N. Ireland as well. The more current version is the Land Rover 110 Defender, which started replacing 109 Series Land Rovers in 1985. It looks similar and is still in use today in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Land Rover 110s in Iraq.

Accurate Armor makes a few versions of the Land Rover 110 Defender.

Check here : LINK

Click on any of the links to the series IIA 109 Land Rovers of which the SAS Pink Panther was one of. It says they where phased out in 1971 in favour of the III series. Just adding modern guns will not get you a modern Landy, they are very different vehicles. By the way, nice pics Gino...

cheers;

Bob

The Tamiya kit is a Series II Land Rover 109 from the 1960's. The more recent Italeri kit was a Series III with a similar weapons fit (the Series III had the headlights moved outboard to the mudguards). Some Series III 109 inch wheelbase Land Rovers were in use in the 1991 Gulf War, but even then the Series 110 Land Rovers had largely replaced them. They have distinctly different bodywork, so that would be a fairly major conversion from either existing kit.
