What flag is flying? Cross of St. George?

In the olden days when mule would "squat" like this (simply lay down and refuse to move) a common practice was to kindle a fire right at his belly.
According to my grandmother, who picked cotton and plowed a mule back in the '20s and '30s, this was quite the effective motivator.
BTW, I in no way condone harming animals, but this story is the first thing that popped in my head when I saw this rather funny pic.
I miss my MeMa!

Hi Guys,
I was going to post it under softskins .
Brad,
Your right, the pose of the soldier and the interacton between the two just make this one a gem. On the cross I'd guess 'Red Cross' medical supplies but who knows?
David,
I'd say a fire would do the trick
Made me laugh, that's for sure. There was a lot of Mule transport used in Sciliy and Italy.

Great photo Al, I was going to use a Sicilian donkey with the new Dragon Commonwealth figures as a beast of burdon, the wagon would be a logical addition. Anybody who buys the new Italeri Breda gets a free stubborn donkey as well.
thanks for sharing,
Ted

Hi Ted,
Yes, they would fit the bill, like these chaps:
If you can't find a lying donkey then how about this fellow: (lol, lol)
Hi Ho Silver
There are a lot of possibilities in Sicily/Italy.
Hope these are of some use, I have similar thoughts but not for a good while yet.

That first picture is great. I love little scenes like this.
Does the donkey below have a swastika on it's neck?

Must be how they came up with the saying "lighting a fire under his ass"
Great pic Al. Can we expect this recreated as a vignette from you soon?

When you say Nazi donkey, are you talking about the animal or the idiot riding it?

Hi Brad,
Yip, softskins was the first thing that popped into my mind when I decided to post the pic .
Matthew and Chris,
Yes, it has that mark!!
Rudi,
I was looking for inspiration for the DML infantry set, I have nothing planned for the immediate future but it would make a cracking vignette some day.
Dean,
From an infantrymans point of view it's much better than walking
Robert,
Glad it raised a smile, a laugh and a little inspiration.
Cheers Guys.

Does Archer have a set of swastika markings for livestock?

Hi Rob,
I've seen Air Recognition flags but have no idea about the swastika markings. The symbol is banned in some countries, but it would be cheaper and probably easier just to paint it on.

I will never trust any animal that is genetically related to a horse. Clidestales, donkeys and shetlands all hate me. I'd rather walk.
