I am wanting to find any Photoetched or resin kits for converting any 1/35 or 1/24 WWII Willys MB jeeps to a Ford GPW jeep. I understand that years ago there was an old Ordnance Kit that was for the older Tamiya Kit, but it is long out of production. Anything out there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know there are non of them. There are many Ford jeeps on the market for the same por cheaper price compared to the Willys. So you would spend at least twice the money for the same kit. That's why there is no need and market for such a thing.

Lars,

Most of the 1/35 and 1/24 kits I know of depict the Willys MB jeep. I do know that a couple have some Ford parts on the kit that they call Willys but the little details like foot rests tool box covers, rear seat parts etc, etc are all willys style. I have many of the 1/35 kits and a fair number of the 1/35 accessory kits and PE stuff, but none of it has ford conversion parts. I have a couple of the older 1/24 Italeri jeep kits and a couple of the newer 1/24 jeep kits along with eduard 1/24 PE for the kit. I have been told that the Italeri 1/24 kit has a ford frame, but I am sure it has willys bits and pieces internal to the tub. If you know of 1/35 or 1/24 kits that are a true model of a Ford Jeep please let me know.

Robert

No, there are no kits of the Ford GPW on the market. The old Ordinance Models PE/resin/white metal conversion is the only one I know of out there. A buddy of mine found one on eBay a few months ago for a good price. Maybe keep an eye on there for one. He is making a 1/35 scale verion of the 1/1 scale he is restoring back home.

Good luck.

That is exactly what I am doing! trying to make a 1/35 scale copy of my 1:1 scale jeep. My Avatar is my jeep. I am also trying to find 1/24 scale stuff as well. I may have to learn to make my own PE stuff. There really are only a few visible pieces that are truely different

Thanks,

Robert

Academy only offers the Ford (later AM General) built M151 series used during the 1960s, 70s and early 80's. The question here is about the Ford jeeps built during World War Two. Three companies built jeeps during the war: Bantam, Willys Overland, and Ford. The Bantam model was bought in very small numbers, and Willys got the major contract. Ford got a contract to build a nearly identical version, and almost half the jeeps built were Fords. After the war, and despite its being a universal nickname for several makers' products, Willys was able to finagle a service mark/copyright for the jeep name, and changed the company name to Jeep.
