Hi guys,
What do you all think about a campaign dealing with military equpmant from Asia? China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea etc?
Now Asia is a big place and to try and narrow it down I used the countries that participate in the Asian Games which works out to 45. That total also includes alot of countries from the Middle East which I feel would better served in a separate campaign so I eliminated them.
Here is the list I came up with...
Afghanistan
Bangladesh
Bhutan
Brunei
Cambodia
China
East Timor
Hong Kong
India
Indonesia
Japan
Kazakhstan
Kyrgyzstan
Laos
Macau
Malaysia
Maldives
Mongolia
Myanmar (Burma)
Nepal
North Korea (DPR Korea)
Pakistan
Philippines
Singapore
South Korea
Sri Lanka
Taiwan
Tajikistan
Thailand
Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan
Vietnam
(South Vietnam)
I propose a campaign on any military vehicles from any era from any of the above countries. I think it would be better this way not to narrow it down to much as model kits from this part of the world arn't as widespread as say from Europe or the US.
I think it would be a great change from the same old stuff and allow us to expand our horizons a bit. This part of the world seems to be a bit neglected in this hobby.
Tamiya, Trumpeter, AFV Club and Academy all have a good selection of kits OOB that would be perfect for this. It also gives alot of freedom to come up with some unique stuff too. Afgan, Vietnam, North Korea a Leopard from Singapore etc.
Just thought I would test the waters and see what the reaction might be. Let me know what you guys think. I am thinking later in the year as there seem to lots of campaigns already.
Suggestions welcome! Name for it, times, length etc.
Jeff

I fixed it.
I used the list from the Asian Games and Taiwan is refered to as Chinese Taipei because of the issues China has with Taiwan using the name Taiwan etc.
Anyways....
Forgot to change it. Thanks for pointing it out and for replying. Thats one of the projects I had in mind too.

I am in. It could be a nice change from all the German WWII subjects. I would probably find some of the locally produced Chinese stuff. Maybe that SPG Trumpeter makes.

I think this will be a great campaign! I have a ton of IJA and JGSDF kits in my stash to choose from. I also have a Trumpeter K1A1. I may have to get Tankograd's booklet on Southeast Asian Armor for even more ideas.

Hi Gary,
I have a few kicking around too in the stash.
I figure this would be a great way to see some different stuff. Some of the Trumpeter Chinese/Japanese kits look really interesting but you never see them built.

Hi Grant.
Thats what I was thinking. Its a bit broad but I thought it would draw more interest that way since its apart of the world that we don't see much in model form. It gives you a huge amount of options to choose from.
I was thinking though that maybe Vietnam should be left out as is a subject that is big enough for its own campaign?
Let me know what you guys think. I would love to hear some suggestions.

I would definitely be interested. I have a number of IJA subjects in the stash, but this would give me an excuse to get one of the JGSDF Type 90s.
I would also welcome the chance to see another campaign where there is no chance of seeing a Tiger I being built!

I don't think Vietnam should be left out as long as the vehicles would have to be in Vietnamese markings. Most Vietnam subjects (at least here in the US) are of US vehicles, not Vietnamese.

Okay!
Great to see some replies.
Shaun....I am not sure about dates/times etc. I wanted to see what kind of interest there is first. I am welcome to any ideas but I figure some time around Sept 1st?
Gary....you are probably right. Vietnam should stay.
Gives everyone time to think about what to build etc. Hopefully we can get some more replies and develop this thing further and I will submit this idea.
I am thinking about maybe doing one of the Trumpy Chinese kits or maybe Academys Korean stuff. Should make for some interesting stuff.
Cheers guys.

Very interesting. I read a few replies regarding JGSDF vehicles, but -
include the "Middle East" asian countries and of any era. The specific of this campaign would be of countries that do not make their own armor and vehicles but buy and import from other countries only. This way it will be very educational to see research done and see unique markings and paint schemes on otherwise familiar vehicles.
This way both beginner and advanced modelers will have access to already available kits (with some modifications) on the market, which may include eek-bay.
I like the comment about not another Tiger tank above...

I'd be happy to gone this campaign and do either a North or South Vietnamese vehicle or one from Laos or Cambodia.
As for a campaign name you could use 'Asian Armour', 'Asian Armies' or 'Oriental Firepower' something along those lines anyway?
Cheers
David

How about
Steel Beasts of the East? A friend of mine just suggested that.
I am still trying to decide what to build.
I see Bronco just released this...
/35 Italian CV L3/35 Series II in Chinese service
Its going to be hard to decide!

Did this campaign proposal get dropped somewhere? I see the "Get the Job Done Again" campaign got approved the day after it was proposed!

My apologies gentlemen. I did not put Asia together with Steel Beasts of the East. No problem approving it for you but I did not do it right away since the start is so far out. It is approved now.
