Hi Guys,

While we wait for official confirmation looks like Tasca have a New M4A4 Sherman Mk V coming along and DML have a New M4 Sherman.

What a great end/start to 2008/2009.

One what lol, lol.

Yes, even though it appears to have been announced, I wonder when it might arrive??? Still a new M4 is long over due so it's a good start to the New Year.

Tasca's M4A4 Sherman Mk V is a logical step as they had the bits, but welcome none the less.

Cheers

I still think I'll get the formations M4 conversion for the extra sherman III on my shelf, I've noticed a rather sharp spike in price on the new M4A1 DV from DML, like $70 canuck seems a bit much, no doubt this will follow suit. I'm sure the tasca will be great, now lets just keep our fingers crossed for a DD Sherman from them!

A M4A4 is great news for Commonwealth armour modellers!! I'm sure it will be very popular for those of us wanting to build a Canadian sherman
2009 is looking great!!

Hey Al,
I saw the Tasca Sherman V M4A4 on the PMMS site a few days ago but thought I'd let Jim or Pat post it in the News Section.

http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/tasca.htm

The new M4 looks promising, you got to wonder how soon Dragon will announce a new Sherman V ???
Cheers

Hey James,
The Sherman V M4A4 was built between July 1942 and September 1943 and was the primary version produced under Lend Lease.
Sherman V's were issued to Canadian units in Sicily and Italy in 1943 and would have been issued to British and other Commonwealth units prior to the Normandy landings in June 1944.

Hey Al,
It's been every Sherman modeller's dream of late !!!
With two DV M4A1 Shermans, a new M4, a new M4A4 and a few others I've probably forgotten, the stash is going to get too big to build !!!
Now if some manufacturer would do a plastic Ram and it's variants, that would be outstanding !!!
Cheers

Hi John,

It's great news all around. I see the M4A4 is already on LM web site. There are still lots of possible versions in plastic but the icing on the cake will be the first company to bring out an accurate 1/35 DD. This is one modellers have been after for years and would sell like hot cakes I believe.

Oh, it's only the 2nd January so still time yet for more surprises lol, lol.

Al actually let me know about both kitsin a PM (An option open to everyone) as I'm down with the flu and haven't been trawling the internet. I was waiting for a reply to an email to Tasca asking for photos and details but they are on holiday. I'll add details as I get them.

Eric you can cross your fingers and your legs, you can even cross your heart but I doubt if we'll be seeing a DD sherman in plastic any time soon although I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

Hi Al,
Yeah, a DD in plastic would be sweet !!!
I've thought about getting the resin kit, Resicast IIRC, but the price has always been a deterrent.
All these new Shermans variants will make a number of AM companies nervous and make a lot of modellers shelve any plans to kitbash them.
I have a number of resin hulls sitting in my stash that may never see the light of day !!!
Cheers

Hi John,

The Tasca kit is marked as 'Black Sod' 2 Irish Guards Armoured lol, lol

Who know if this turns into 'the Sherman Wars' between Dragon and Tasca 1st past the post with a DD will be the clear winner lol, lol.

Yeah Al, but given the current trend, would a Tasca DD push the MSRP to $100? That would be a very unwelcome milestone!
I'm not hoping for release wars between Tasca and Dragon, I'm hoping for price wars! I'll be looking at the price before the name for quite a while. Once 1/35 standard styrene kits are over $50 a box, the purse strings tighten way up!

Hi Matthew,

Price was quite a big issue for people when the M4A1 DV's came out, and many will opt for the best value for money option that's for sure.

I must say I am kind of surprised the likes of Dragon, Tasca, or any number of other companies have not released a flail or DD Sherman in 1/35th, as I believe they would be very sought after kits. I believe that apart from six DD Shermans under water in Poole harbour somewhere near the Dolphin bank only the one in Bovington remains.

Thanks Al
That M4 is gonna sell like hotcakes!
I love the 3 different 'nose' options, although DS T48 tracks would have been preferred... I hope the .50cal is a worthy addition! Geez, I've waited close to 15 years to get a plastic improvement on the Tamiya number...

Whilst welcome news, I do have to ask where are the DML Composites so long promised? The Firefly 1c Hybrid kit 6228 and the PTO M4 Composite kit 6441. 6228 has been coming for three years and i do have to wonder whether we will see a 1c welded hull Firefly before this is released.
The M4 has been long overdue as is DML revisiting the old 6048 M4A1 with a new turret and Running gear.
As for a DD I won't hold my breath and given the price of TASCA and now the new DML pricing I'd say they will be prohibitive in price. A good Crab would be an easier conversion in Plastic for the mainstream manufacturers.
Pawel if you are reading this the material that DML used for the USSR M4A2 76mm mantlet would be good for a folded or raised DD screen and wold solve a lot of the problems in kitting one (Hint, Hint).
I am really looking forward to the M4 and appreciate that it has a turret 50 and the choice of noses. I wonder if a Brit M4 can be far behind - if it is i hope they have the sense to offer a 2-1 with a Firefly turret.
Good days
Al

A good idea for the material Al!
A screen down DD from the 70th TB with tank riders after the Overlord landings is begging...

Hi Brad,

Yes it will be popular, I wounder if they will do a British version, hate to buy several kits and then the alternative appears lol, lol.

I can see 2009 being a costly year at this rate.

I'd say another logical item to anticipate are Tasca Sherman IIIs. This is based on the sprue layouts of some the Sherman II and how they molded their Houseboat brackets.
