Im trying to find out how my streets should look. In (figure 1) of my diagram there is flagstone would this been used anywhere in town like Caen. My other pic (figure 2) would A or B work for the streets and sidewalks.

Either form of street could be found in Caen... but brick and cobblestones were most common for three reasons:
1) Small and easy to work with
2) inexpensive and affordable for local givernemtn
3) Easy to repair
Go look on my website (scalemilitary.com) and you will find several types of streets, roads, and sidewalks i sell, all fairly cheaply.

I was in Caen a couple of years ago as a jumping off point for a visit to Normandy and as many of the places I could visit associated with D-Day. The cobblestone and brickwork are definitely the way to go insofar as most of the public passages are concerned. You might easily find flagstone but it would probably be in gardens or patios off the street. Glad to know there are dioramists out there who are concerned with detail and historical accuracy to enhance their efforts. As much destruction as there was in Caen in the summer of 1944 they rebuilt using the same techniques used before the war and those rebuilt areas are still thriving with cobblestone and brick.
