I have started a scratch build of the M 172 Lowboy trailer like the ones we had in Vietnam. I am going to build either the M 275 2 1/2 ton tractor or the M 52 A1 tractor to pull it. I have the frame and rear wheels started. I still have more brace work for the under side and then the fun part of the goose neck extension for the fifth wheel and skid plate and landing struts.

A little off topic Dave, I'm working on a M123A1C right now. Did the pull anything other than the M15A1 trailer in Vietnam?
They sometimes pulled a flat trailer. I know of one time when they used the ten tons to help transport a train for the South. Not sure of the nomenclature for the trailer but it was a big beefy one. The Heavy trans units used them.

Nice build Dave hope you take plenty build photos . Ive been looking for wheels and tires like the ones you have but have had no luck. My 275 needs something to pull. Were did you get the specs for the m172. Cant wait to see more.

Hi,
The M123 can pull eithe a M172, M162, M15A2 flat bed trailer.
For the train haulage (from wich Dave is speaking) it can be M162 flat bed semi trailer.
This one looks like the M172 but was more bigger and have a more heavy payload.
Some references pics :
Dave, nice work as uusual, wich wheel are you using for your trailer?
TIA

I finally retrieve the train transport pics :
Its a 3axles trailer, so not a M162.

Thanks, Pascal.
Dave, what are using for wheels and tires on your build?
I am using some of the wheels from the Faun transporter trailer. I am going to make some molds and cast them. I ran out of mold material and it is on order. I cut the axles and shorten them to fit the M172 trailer.

Truck and Trailer are looking great Dave, another nice Vietnam era piece. Have you decided what if anything is going onto the trailer.

Nice Dave! Ya know, if you put that SW switcher on this trailer, by that picture above, it would qualify for my Stop, Look and Listen campaign!
Right on! The fifth wheel arm came out great!
I like the mods on the tractor, too. It's going to look nice!

I see this old post about the M-123.I drove a 10 Ton for 2 years in NAM.I pulled the M-172 Lowboy 25 Ton,also the M-15A1 And the XM-747 this trailer was the 1st Generation M-747 used by the early Oshkosh's of the 70's.Did not do well with the M-123's the 903 Cummins air Compresser could not keep up with the air demand of the XM-747 Trailer.A note about the M-172 Trailer we where excedding off road weights by 10% outstanding Trailer still used today.I drive a 11 Axle Truck in the US Peterbuilt truck and a 2x3x2 Trailking Trailer.Still doing what i did in Nam with the 233rd Trans Heavy Lift.My youngest son and i are building a 1:35 Diorama of my 10 Ton Dragon Wagon,10 Ton with Lowboy,Bobtail 10 Ton,M-48 Tank and 1/4 Ton jeep/w Trailer. Tank and I are doing a river crossing on our way into the central highlands (TRUE Event) hoping to see somebody come out with the M-172 soon no time for sratch build be cause of bussness demands.
