Here's an Elephant I've been working on. I lost the detail parts than found them again. I'm missing the gun lock and I'm going to have to fix that.

As always comments welcome, or .
Thx for looking.

Thank you for sharing this build Brian, can you take some more pictures though as these are all a little blurred. Stand a little further from the model and then resize and crop the pictures after.

Lot's of work going on there Brian, great start. Pictures don't show too much, may want to modify your lighting and background a little, there are some great tips on the site here related to taking pictures. Keep at it, let's see some more when you've finished it up...as well as your Panther that's hiding in there too!

Cheers -

CMOT,
Didn't realize they were that bad!!! Looked good on Photobucket. Guess I'd better do a reshoot. Thx for the comment.

Tim,
I posted the whole collection in the AFV section. You should see the other "projects."

I like the way it turned out, even if you can't see many details on those photos. Is this the older DML kit or the premium version? I'm currently working on a Ferdinand and it's great to see a finished model, I mean they're basically the same.

Please post some more pictures so we can see all the details that you painstakingly recovered from the carpet monster!

Cheers!

Besides the bad pics and missing details you pointed out,it seems to look pretty good.
Which DML kit is it?

Mike, Rob,

Thx for the ++++++'s.
I hate to tell you both the kit is an older Italeri kit. It's only the 4th Italeri kit that I've ever build. I've got a Dodge "Beep" W.C. (dismantled), 2 1/2 ton truck(same as "Beep"), Dodge command car(1/2 build), and the Elephant. SURPRISE!!

Mike,
Yes, the Ferdinard the same. The Elephant (Elefant) came about do to the short comings for the Ferdinard in Russia, during the Kursk campian in '43. Basiclly the Elefant is a recycled Ferdinard.
The MG was added, and new commanders hatch was also added, plus improved driver's vision block.
These were re-issued to the PzJagAbt 653 in Italy.
You probably knew that already.

Anyways, Thx again for the .

After the Ferdinand's combat debut at Kursk (flawed tactical deployment and no close in defense against infantry attacks) the 48 surviving vehicles were pulled out of the line, shipped back to the Nebelungen Werks in Austria and "refurbished". The modifications included a new commanders cupola based on the Stug III ausf. G cupola to replace the hatches in the roof plate, a ball mounted machine gun with additional armor bolted around it (300mm total), new tracks that are 40mm wider to help deal with ground pressure issues and zimmerit! All Elefants had zimmerit applied to them.

In spite of their problems at Kursk, they still managed a 15 to 1 kill ratio vs Russian armor during the battle.

Scott,
Thx for the backup. This model will have the zim. on it. I'm still toying with how I'm going to show it off.
I've still got some work to do with it, along with all the other "projects."
Thx for looking.

Ah, I should have looked closer, now that you said it's the Italeri kit I can see the differance. Keep posting, i'm interested in seeing what you do with it.

Yeah, I've read plenty on German tanks and their stories so it's nothing new, thanks anyway and thanks to Scott for explaining everything in greater detail!

It looks pretty good for the fact that it's an older kit and honestly, I totally forgot about the Zimmerit, hadn't noticed if it hadn't been mentioned here.

Keep us posted on the progress!

Ant,
Thx. I'll keep everyone posted.
No progress today.
Went back to work on the 7th, Lowry Driver, Truck driver here in the states.
I try and work on them when I can. I take kits with me, but rarely have time to do any work. And when I do have time I can only get so far before stopping.
Oh well, what can you do.
