Hi guys!! Two days ago I ran into a model from Academy. It's a Tiger I mid production, with complete interiour. It was only 25 Euro's, so it didn't take long to persuade me!!
Since I never build German armor before , it's a entiere new world for me.
Now here's the questions: 1. Is it a good model, is it accurate?
2. Any tips on painting? I'm planning to do a European theatre Tiger.
3. Did anyone allready build it, and are there photo's available?

Thanks in advance, John.

Hi, Have one about half completed, now for about a year or so! Ha, ha!

Funny how things get put back as other models come along that take your eye, and things around the house take preference sometimes ( a lot of the times!). Have completed the turret and put the Zimmerit on the main body, but that's been about it so far.

Is it accurate? Well, depends on you interrpretation of accuracy. As with all models there are short cuts by the maunfacturers on all of them. If your planning to build it like the one whose pictures crop up here every now and then, and totally 'kill's' the morale of the rest of us (!!!!!), I'd have to say it's terribly inaccurate!!!! But if you're building it just OOTB with a few add-ons to it--like an aluminum barrel, some Zimmerit and a few other small things--then I would say it's absolutely great. I know it's taxing my abilities just as it is.

One or two words of advice. If you're planning to use Zimmerit on it, no matter of what type, go with the Archer dry transfer system for decals, as I just couldn't get my kit decals to settle down at all on the Zimmerit that I put on the turret. (Was pretty sure they wouldn't anyway, but had to try.) And if you can swing it, a set of new tracks. Preferably the white metal ones from Fruilmodel or those from Model Kasten.

I hand-painted my turret with Polly S German Yellow and it came out real nice. Also, since I usually use a light Gray auto primer on my models, I just left this coating on the inside walls and it makes a kind of nice color contrast to the outside.

Sorry I have no pictures of it yet. I'm working with halfyank on getting my digital camera operational, but so far haven't been able to talk my wife into springing for a bigger Infernal Machine (computer) so I can post some to this site. But I'm sure there are plent of photos on this site and others that show this vehicle.

I think it's a really great kit.

Take care and good luck, sgirty

The exterior is good, although again Academy missed the asymmetrical turret of the Tiger I. The interior is a botch. They used the same interior as their early Tiger( which had mistakes) not bothering to note the mid-production Tiger interior was vastly changed including the gun breech and other major items.

Build with the hatches closed or with crewmen to hide the interior.
