I need some opinions on this. Sorry for the poor photos, but I realy need to get an idea of whether I should srip the paint and re-paint the kit. Perhaps the pigments etc are too much? or improperly applied? In anycase, I hope the photos make it.

I like it ET,

What references did you use for the colors (especialy the darker brown) ?

Is this the Miniarm conversion on the Tamiya Hull ?

Cheers

Hey, Eric!
I have seen this model before the painting and I know what a hell of a job you did on it!!! If I had at least half the patience you have maybe I would finish some of the models I started on (6 models in progress + trying to put my E10 in diorama)... Models like this one are a good inspiration to continue modeling! And now you want to strip the paint?
Maybe try some detail/pin wash over the whole model? I think it is just all it needs - to bring out the detail. This is not T-34 or Abrams, here are lot of details.

I think it looks great mate! Forget about stripping and repainting it, just leave it as it is.

Thanks for the comments guys. I just think that maybe I did not apply the pigments correctly (too much). I'll see what elase I can do with it.

For those interested it is indeed the Miniarm T-90 conversion using the Model 2004 welded turret. It also has the Miniarm T-90 hull correction, wheels, and tracks. I added the eduard T-72 "Zoom" set although only the grills fit correctly. I also added additional conduit lines to the smoke grenade launchers, and other areas, and scratched the spotlight mount by the loader's hatch.

For paint on this, I looked to the multitude of reference shots from the Russian sites. The green I used was the Russian armor green from Xtracrylics and I found it matched up to the olive tone of the new T-90's in inventory. For the sand color I used Tamyia Dark Yellow with some white added to it as the photos seem to show that color a bit more yellow/khaki looking. The black was hand painted with Vallejo flat black.

I applied my own filters to each color, and also did a light dry brushing. Pigments were added and a pin wash as well.

It seems to me that any camoflage piece is more difficult to apply the color modulation/MIG techniques to due to the different base colors. I guess I am still learning.

Some of you may remember my lamenting about receiving a turret in a banged up state. It was missing some of the finer details which had broken off, and were not loose in the bag. I ended up throwing more money into it, and buying another turret which really didn't make the wife very happy.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm no expert, but it looks fine to me. Try taking your photos with a different base and background. You lose some of the punch of your work with it sitting on the cardboard.

I hear ya Ed. I need to get working on that base soon. I also did a pair of Tank figures for it, they turned ok and should add a little perspective.

Eric,
if it is not a secret, where did you order Tank? So far the only option I see is to order it overseas...

ET where did you get your MIniam stuff ?

Mine came from here:

https://historicabooks.3dcartstores.com/Miniarm_bymfg_33-0-1.html

Miniarm is expensive but it's the best T-90 stuff you can get,

and the base T-72 came from e-bay...... a good deal there this time

Cheers

Paul

Nice job. It certainly looks the part.

If you want to tone down the pigements, do another thin (10/90) wash of something like Burnt Umber. It will remove quite a bit of the light color in the pigment effect and then you can add pigment more to your liking after that.

HOWEVER, THAT SAID, you may want to try this technique on a practice piece before subjecting all that hard work to a possible mistake maker!

Hey Alex, I originally ordered from Lucky Model. I have had great luck (no pun intended) ordering from them, but on this occassion the Turret was banged up, and I honestly believe that it may have happened in Russia due to the missing tiny pieces in the packaging.

The second order was through Historica Books. Fantastic service, quick shipping (only took a couple days to Madison from Colorado) and everything was intact when I unpackaged it.

If it were mine I would do a couple of dark washes to bring out a bit more detail. Especially the tracks. BLACK! There, I said it.
