Hi all,

Can anyone give me a quick overview of the differences between an M548 and an M548A1 ? I'm looking at backdating (if necessary) the AFV Club model to a Vietnam version and having it shown resupplying an M110.

Thanks for any help guys,

Andy

Hi Andy
IMHO there should not be much visible differences between the two variants. Maybe checking out Jerzy's M548 Vietnam pics will help you to spot them if need be ...

According to Hunnicutt's "Bradley", the M548A1 used the revised engine cooling system and suspension of the M113A2. Fortunately, AFV Club missed adding the shock absorber to roadwheel #2 so you don't have to mess with that. Photos show an "early" and "late" engine compartment bulhead in the cargo compartment. I don't know if that means M548 and M548A1 or if there were early and late bulheads for the M548. The early has a row of 4 circular access ports in the bulhead. The late has upper and lower rectangular access hatches. I don't know if the grills on top were any different since the radiator would have moved from the exhaust side to the intake side. Hunnicutt also mentions the cargo hoist for the M548A1, not the M548 but the captions on pictures of the hoist say M548, not M548A1.

That's why I didn't mention it

On a side note, many Vietnam-era M548s were fitted with a M49A1 gun ring rather than the M66 gun ring as AFV Club M548A1 (but both rings were used there) :

Thanks for the replies, guys. I didn't think that there would be too much of a difference in the Vn era one, guess I'll be studying some photo's for a while !

Regards,

Andy
