Good GOD Joe!! You're going to have to store that in the garage!!!
Seriously though, sweet piece of scratchin' you're doing here!
I'm not sure if I ever said thanks, but the 5 ton aircleaner you sent me really made the build for my customer.
In case I didn't, Thanks much and best regards, Ed

Joe,
the unit on the forward end of your trailer is called a Tactical Quiet Generator.
Yours looks excellent! There are more pictures here:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/mep-tqg.htm
I am really sincerely impressed by your work on this! When you take that to BUFCON that is going to draw a crowd.

Pascal,
Here are the only pics I could find that I took of the ECS. You'd figure that working with one for 4 years, I'd have more pictures. Been kicking myself for the last 10 years over this. Anyway, here they are (these pictures are of the pre positioned equipment in Saudi Arabia, not from my unit):
This photo shows the chemical shower that is attached to the rear door, and then by a hose to the GPFU on the front of the van. To the right of the door are to fiber optic connections to the launchers, and to right og the door are the connections to the AMG. Yes, that is a Folgers coffee can on the tailgate. Also, you can just see the VHF antennas and a fly-swatter UHF antenna sticking up through the sun shield o the left side of the van.
This photo shows the curbside of the van. The hose that looks like it is on the front of the van is actually attached to the exhaust for the truck. Kept the exhaust out of the A/C unit. This is NOT standard. What also isn't standard is the rope attached to the bottom of the SINGARS antenna to assist in raising it. It was attached to a tie-down on the truck. The fly-swatter UHF antennas are stored in the bag on the side of the van. They are rarely (if ever) used. The ICC and the CRG have them as well, but the AMG is almost always used. We had them on the van in Saudi just in case.
They're not much, but I hope they help some what.
Figured I shoud define some abbreviations:
ICC - Information Coordination Central (Battalion, looks like the ECS, but without the launcher connections)
CRG - Communications Relay Group (looks like the ECS, but only has one A/C unit on the left side of the van)
AMG - Antenna Mast Group (two really big UHF antenna towers mounted on a M928)
Jim

Thanks guys yeah this build is a turning out pretty good. I'm also learning a few other tricks along the way.
James thanks for the info and pics. I saved them for a future build. I hope to do a second piece before mid April. As for all the vehicles linked together again thanks. I do have photos and graphs of all the vehicles and break downs of most parts. That’s not to say I still my have to ask you from time to time.
Here is the finished generator, I just need to add the rubber mounting pad to the small bottom box beam. I now starting on the 4 out riggers, talk about some cutting.
More to come,
Happy Modeling,
Joe

It is looking great, Joe. I am very impressed. Do you do this for a living? I really want to do a dio of the "Big Four" (RADAR, ECS, EPP. & AMG), but I seriously lack the talent right now.
What other piece of PATRIOT equipment are you planning for the Spring? Heck, you've got the trailer down pat, how about the RADAR set? The hard part about that would be the actual array. Lots of little circles (something like 2000). If you do decide to do the RADAR, the vehicle bumper number is always "14". I was in C Btry, so the RADAR was C-14T, and the HEMTT was C-14. The ECS is always "11", the AMG is "12", and the EPP is "13". If I remember corectly, the bumper numbers for Launcher Platoon started with "20, with the actual launcher bumper numbers starting at "21".
Way too much info, right?
Jim

Wow. Being in a PATRIOT unit myself, this model looks like the real friggin deal. I noticed someone mentioned the name of the generator a bit earlier....if thats the true name, its completely wrong! they are so friggin loud it isn't funny. Joe, it seems as though you have your own personal launcher in your backyard for reference but if you are struggling on anything...please let me know and i'll get some pictures for you.
Also, for the sake of our Air Defense units and to all posting here....please watch what you are posting, some of this stuff may be unclassified but it is sensitive material. I understand YOU found it, but that does not mean you should go posting it all over the place. I just ask you gentlemen use discretion in posting some pictures, especially of the ICC and AMGs. Thanks. Theres alot of hush hush around PATRIOT.

Justin, I understand your concern for the sensitivity of PATRIOT image info, however there have been several newly developed missile intercept systems that are already being produced, or scheduled to be produced at this moment, the most notables being GMD by Boeing and BMD by Lockheed-Martin. While I am wholeheartedly concerned for the security of the nation, I doubt that any of the images here are anything other than public information, and if PATRIOT systems are going to be in use in the coming years, it doesn't look like it will be by the US.

Yes, you are right. The army has been looking into new air defense systems since the day after PATRIOT came out. They are always trying to improve each system. However, I do know that these systems of tomorrow are just that, in the future and are not here yet. We are still using the PATRIOT system and the threat especially here in Korea is very tangible. I just wouldn't want a war to start and they find something out about PATRIOT through a forum that hurts us, old timers talking about it, pictures and so forth...
Anyway...Joe, i am very pleased to see you take an interest in modern air defense, especially PATRIOT. I am not jacking your thread at all, just wouldn't be doing my job if i didn't provide some type of $.2 on the OPSEC topic. Again, if you need some type of pictures let me know and i'll try to help you out.

Thanks guys, moving along…more slowly than I want. Looks like I wont’ be finished by 2-3 week of February. I was hoping to start on the (ECS) Engagement Control Station early Feb. I’ll go ahead and start it and hope it’s finished by late March.
@ James…
@ Lars, I don’t think I’ll get into master making, it becomes a job. Besides I’m really not all that great. I’m sure I’m off a ton here and there.
@ Seb...
@ Justin…thanks for the great comments. I’ll keep you and James in mind if I become stuck and needing info. As for the generators name…I just know it being the main launchers power pack generator.
As to posting photos of REAL vehicles and equipment…well I’m not sure how to answer that being that it’s found just about anywhere with a click of a button. I totally understand where your coming from but then again….you know what I mean. Heck I have books that have more info and reference than found on the internet.
Update…started and installed the outriggers over the weekend.
Before I start on the Patriot containers I thought I finish up on all the small detail work, lights, markers, brake gear and tanks, a few small relay boxes and front landing gear.
Thanks Newfish and Bill
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Well after the circles were cut out I placed a piece of plastic from behind, then I glued in small round rod in place. Concerning the handle how did you do that, it is so realist

This is truely amazing work Joe. You seem to have Ti's fever for scratchbuilding the impossible. You and ti are my favorite builders. Ti should see this. Your work is very amazing. If I'm not mistaken ti build one of these right? I think he did only the chute support. Have you seen it? BTW, I wonder where ti is? I will be looking in to see the end product.
