I look with envy at all the Plastic figure kits being produced at the moment by manufacturers like Dragon, Miniart, Masterbox. All really good figures, however, they are all WWII subjects and mostly German (I am not knocking them, each to their own.)
Despite a few kits some years ago from Dragon and some more recent poor Trumpeter kits there has been nothing new for modellers interested in modern subjects.
Instead we are left to purchase resin figures (about £7-£10 each). Don't get me wrong I have got a lot of them and they are generally excellent figures. When I compare them against a set from any of the above manufacturers figures, which retail here in the UK for about £6-£10 for a set of usually four figures it’s a big difference in cost.

I know some of you will argue that the manufactures only produce what they consider will sell. I have heard this theory before about Military Vehicles, the argument being that manufacturers produce mostly German WW2 subjects because that’s what sells world wide.
However Trumpeter has turned this theory around lately and is producing lot of really good modern vehicles. I believe this is because they have noted the number of treads on the modern subjects on sites like this.
In the hope that my assumption is correct I have listed below some sets of modern figure kits I would love to see manufactured to the standard of the above WW2 figures
I realise that some figures may be suitable in several nationalities i.e. American/ Canadian and Soviet/Arab armies.

What do you think is there any chance?

US Marines Early OIF
British Forces Basra Operation Telic
US & British Tank Crew OIF/Operation Telic
American SF
Modern Delta Force
SF Humvee crew Afghanistan
Modern British SAS
Canadian Stryker Crew

Exellent list Cookie.
I agree that Trumpeter seems to be the only company listening to the public.
It would be like Christmas morning as a kid to be able to find half those figures on a shops shelf.

Modern US special forces, British modern SAS, Delta etc. would allow for some great and different modern dio options. I too would love to see some more modern figures, and not just the grunt OIF figures more spec ops afghanistan style. Great list you've got though!

I've been on this seated figure "jag" for quite awhile. I've got vehicles with no drivers and passengers, I'd like to see both WW II and modern troops in a sitting position !

Actually, the Trumpter figures are pretty bad. Their faces/heads are blobs and the body positions are weird. Legs are skinny on most of them too.

The Dragon US Marines are quite good and can be used as Army or Marine figures. They have nothing on them that makes them specifically Marines.

Another option that works great is to take the IBA-clad torsos from either Trumpeter or Dragon and swap them out with the torsos of older (ODS-era) Dragon figure sets. This gives you almost limitless combinations and they look good. I have done this a few times.

For up-to-date modern guys in ACUs, Trumpeter is supposed to be releasing a set of armor crew and infantryman. The figures are already in their new M1127 Stryker RV, but listed as not used and the infantryman has some pieces missing (notably his head). These figures look very good (about the quality of Dragon's). This set, and some of their other announced ones look promising.

Other than that, its resin all the way. Lots of great resin figures out there though.

I agree with the modern Brits. Shamelessly linking this to the Land Rover thread I started, I think if a company such a Dragon were to produce a landy, they should also have either figures that are included with it or at least a figure set that can be bought to go with it. I'd like to see a set of brits with optional heads and weapons that could easily be used to represent regular forces or SF such as the RM Brigade Patrol Troop ( formerly M&AW cadre).
Rather than a scatter gun approach to your wish list, I would try to focus on one particular type of figures and try to get as many people behind it as possible. Otherwise people generally just add their own wish list and the focus is lost.

Good luck with this!

Off the good resin figures I have, the three listed below are excellent
Blast Modern US Figures early IOF
Alpine Tank Crew early IOF
Formally Think one eighty (Now sold by Mig Productions) Marines early IOF

I have some Verlinden US figures from IOF. Whilst the figures get some criticism I find them expectable. The heads usually incorporate helmets without chin strap for example and the detail is not as fine as the above figures.
The British figures from the same period are very generic but they are cheaper than and there is not much available on this front. I know that. Accurate Armour are producing a range of modern British figures.

My list was extensive I agree i just wanted to get some discussion on the subject in the hope that some of the manufactures would take note and see the possibilities. I do agree that it is not fair to produce vehicles and not bring out some figures for it.

I really hope that the manufacturers do take the time look at these sites and get to know what their customers are really thinking. Part of the problem with "modern" figure kits is that real life gear is changing so quickly that the figures can soon appear to be dated. Rather than trying to make generic modern forces perhaps manufacturers ought to look at key battles/iconic moments& images to capture in plastic. Just an idea.
And finally I'd love to see some modern Aussies ( Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor!) - they have had no representation despite having great camo for us painters. And they would fit in the landy that I am hoping for!
PS I hope i didn't come across as though I was lecturing you in my previous post, sorry if the tone was a little off, it wasn't intentional.
