Hi guys, I've seen for sale Academy 1/48 scale tank kits. Now they are advertised as motorised but does anybody know if they are actual "kits" in their own right or more toys. I've seen there is a selection of modern armour and one or two WW2 items and was thinking about a dio combining one of them with an aircraft, eg Challenger tank and attack helicopter. Just didn't want to spend my hard earned pennies on one if they are only really toys.

The Academy 1/48 tanks are reboxes of the Zhengdefu motorized tank kits. More akin to toys than serious model kits. The lower hulls are all the same, meaning the same lower hull and running gear for an Abrams is used for an M60, Leopard, T-90, Bradley, etc.

Some of the kits are motorized, others are static.
