Impressive work. The dio is pretty good I think; a medal winner. I'd make the leaves more brownish though.

I can only repeat what everyone else has said. This was a great 'experiment' with a sensational result. I have my bottle of crackle paint awaiting a suitable project as I'm sure many others do also.
Thanks Rob for a great thread.
Cheers,
Charles

Thank you gentlemen, I'm pleased to here you like this little project of mine.
Brett.. The leaves turned out a little greener than I wanted, I will give them a couple of light washes with brown to tone them down. This is a learning project for me. I'm trying out new techniques and it's the first time doing leaves, still learrning, thanks for the advice.

I'd say you captured the look perfectly Rob...old hulks and derelict parts quietly returning back to the earth in some long-forgotten field is exactly the feeling this one provides.

Bill, Vanhall and Don thank you, you guys are way too kind.
I submitted a review last week on this technique so keep your eye out for it. I'm doing it in two parts, the basic crackle and then an advanced crackle technique using various methods to achieve different effects. I'm still playing around with the second part trying to get it down pat.

Like most I am in awe of this, I'm doing a burnt out T-55 at the moment and will be using this, but where can I get Crakle paint in the UK? anybody? I've never heard of it before.

Hi
A simple looking diorama with very little fussy mess laying about, makes this a very very pleasing but different type of diorama to look at. I love it. Love the way that the Hull looks as it it's slowly rusting away . This is 1 I shall be book marking for future reference.
Great Job.

Rob it looks superb, i really like your ground work!

I like the rust effect you've created using actual rust its great!.

Personally I would add some civilian figure maybe a child looking on or playing on the ruins

Truly stunning, innovative, and completely amazing work here, Rob.

This thread has really been an inspiration for me! As a fellow lover of rusted, old hulks, I plan on trying this technique in the near future! I hope you don't mind if I hit you up for some pointers along the way?

Superb--and thank for your selfless, generous sharing of this technique. Some guys would keep this gem to themselves, and just receive the accolades for the finished product without revealing the magic behind it. You've given a priceless gift to us all in explaining your trials and tribulations, and ultimately, your fantastic results here!

Hi Karl..Thanks a bunch, your way too kind. I wouldn't dream of keeping this a secret. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. I'm still trying out different ways of using the crackle, and also different brands of crackle. Thanks for looking.

I'm flabbergasted. Just htink what this can do also to diorama details, when you want your tanks to look more 'active service'. I can think of a barn or two where the paint is flaking off the metal like that.

thanks guys.
Like any other technique this one is only limited to your imagination. It may have many uses in our hobby such as a barn. I'm still playing with this stuff and having fun too.

Hi Rob,

Your rust looks fantastic; did you end up making a guide on how you did it? I found this post doing a search (after playing around with crackle finish myself) but I don't recall seeing a guide about it.
