Hello,

This is my 1st go at resin figures, and I could use some advice.

Here's what I have done so far.
1) removed parts from blocks
2) cleaned up parts with exacto knife and lightly sanded those areas.
3) let soak in Simple Green overnight...then scrubbed parts w/ toothbrush and rinsed well and let dry.

OK, now here's where i need help. when I go to glue the oparts on they won't stick. I'm using CA zap a gap (the green one).
Should I be using an accellerator? different type of glue? I heard good things about Gator Glue, does it work well with resin?

thanks in advance
Tony

There are times (atmospheric conditions?) when Zap doesn't cure as quickly as it should. It should not be affected by the resin since the bond is strictly the cured glue, unlike palstic cement which melts parts together. You may need to use a bit of accelerator. One of the figs I'm working on right now needed a kick. If you haven't used it before, don't use the sprayer, apply a drop with an old paint brush or a Micro-Brush.

Hi Tony !
Pinning the 2 parts together with a bit of wire before gluing helps too . Remember also to let the glue set a little naturally before using the accelerator to increase the bond strength of the glued joint. My 2 cents worth . Cheers !
Kenneth .

Tony Greenland points out that CA cures through contact with water. It is true that the curing speed of this stuff varies considerably, perhaps as suggested above, atmospheric conditions, humidity of the room etc. Sometimes I lick my finger, just a tiny bit, wipe most of the moisture off, then wipe it on the part I'm going to stick, then wipe it with a dry finger - so that to all intents and purposes it isn't wet at all... then the glue seems to set almost straight away. Just the introduction of a tiny bit of moisture that you can't even see seems to do the trick.

He also points out, quite neat, that it you put CA on waxed paper it doesn't really set at all, and I have found the same if you put it on those polythene type milk carton tops - you can put a drop on it, and then apply it with wire from there. Fine wire with the smallest loop you can make in the end will act like a tiny bubble blower and enable you to pick up a small drop of glue and apply it.
