Hi at all,
Iīm planning an winter-street diorama and iīm very Interesting in this Figure set from DML:
20th Waffen Grenadier Division (Baltic St '44) 1:35.
I only have the Pictures seen here in the news section of this set. Have anybody this set and could say anything about the Quality or better post some pictures of them buildet? I`m not sure to buy these or one of the resin ones from Verlinden. I only work with resin Figures but i want to take 10 Figures and so i could save some money. This is the first time with German Figures. Would you prefer the Resin Figures or are the Gen2 Figures an alternative? I know that this set is Gen1 and so i want to know waht do you think?
Many thanks for comments
Stefan

Hi Stefan you want an opinion so I can only give you mine although there may be some who donīt totally agree. DML are producing some awesome figures these days so when you make a decision balanced by quality & price ,the Dragon is going to come out on top especially if one also considers subject matter so as to eliminate the task of major modifications to get exactly what you want. I got my first set of Gen 2 figures a few weeks ago & the only snag holding me up is the fitting of the equipment hanging from straps & belts etc. I appreciate that a standard sprue for equipment, pouches, water bottles & such keep production costs down so I wonīt complain about it but the good thing is that Iīve got some good quality left-overs to use. Itīs also cheaper to mix & match different plastic kits to get what you are looking for than it is to do with resin. I think some of the Verlinden figures also come out on the larger side of 1/35.

Stefan,
I don't have this set, but I have two other recent Dragon releases from this series - Panzergrenadiers Cherkassy 1944 (set 6490) and 11th Pz.Gren. "Nordland" (set 6455). And as Mike says, the figures that DML are now churning out tend to be of a very high standard.
If these two sets that I have are anything to go by, then the set you're interested in should be well worth getting also. The main weakness that these figures have is, I feel, the heads and faces - but that's where resin replacement heads come in!

I have to agree with all that has been said. Dragon's lateat Gen 1 figures are 1st class with resin AM heads , they really do make the grade, big time. Sometimes the bread bags and water bottles, ammo pouches etc have to be played with a little so they sit, fit the figures but apart from that they're great. Go for it you wont be disapointed. For the price of a few resin figs you can have a whole army of plastic troops.

Thanks guys for your answers and help,
Now i think i have all items that i will buy. I list them up and it would be great to hear what you think.
Bases: Miniart Hungarian Country House and Italian City Building (all for one Winter dio), hope the italian one will work for it. It could be a house in France, Belgium ...
Figure: Dragon German Winter Grenadiers, Wiking, Eastern Front, 1943-45
20th Waffen Grenadier Division (Baltic St '44)
Verlinden: Cover Me! and perhaps another set ;-)
Armor: Tiger or Sturmgeschütz with one Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf. C/D (i will get them from ebay as finishd models) I`m only a figure builder and what i have found looks great.
The streets and accessories willl be scratchbuild or for a little money as sets.
Thatīs all i think.
What do you mean?

Stefan type in Hornet into your search engine and check out the Gwrman head sets. They are truely A1. married to the Dragon figures and they really do turn the plastic figures into world beaters. The detail on Hornet heads are great, see it for yourself. Some of Dragons heads are alittle soft, but adding Hornet heads really make them come alive. I also find the Hornet heads easy to paint, the detail and expresion's help to tell the story of the diorama you are creating. Geraint

Hi Stefan, before you spend the money on the Miniart buildings, check out the link below. I like the diversity of Miniart's buildings, but for me, the amount of work that you have to put in them is out if proportion to the quality. I've seen some fantastic end results using their buildings, but for myself, my time is better spent on the figs or vehicles.
These guys below are making fantastic stuff that is easy to assemble and looks killer!
Just my two pfennigs worth!

Hi Geraint,
yes i have some of the Hornet heads and they are great. I love the Detail of these heads. They are a litte small sometimes when i used them for my 1:35 Vietnam Figures. I mainly do Vietnam/Modern era Figures for about 15 years with conversions and scratchbuilding with magic sculp. So now i want do something else than modern stuff. So i am German so what is nearest than build some Germans ;-). Itīs my first time working on WW 2 and so I have to learn a lot by painting and building them. These Camoflague of the german Uniforms are great looking but hell for paintingi think. So perhaps i will make it more easy with grey and white.
Hi Ed,
itīs a great side but the cost for shipping to Europe are about 40Euro. So the Miniart is still more common. But itīs great looking.
Thanks for comments
