Great and motivated start.
Describe the materials used on this project. And do you have a specific historical story line you are telling?

hi! im 13 as well.so i hope you dont mind if i offer sme CC.

1. are your soldiers fichting it out on a football feild? no. real terrain would have rolling curves. try laminating cardboard and putting plaster overit. also, im pretty shure battlefeilds arnet mowed very often. try adding small tufts of grass with cut off painbrush bristles.

2.also, genaraly whenever thres knocked down brick walls, thre are bricks around them.

3. the od on your us soldiers is wayyy to light. try adding some black.

4. piwashes of dark red work well on figures.

5. your little puddle is the wrong clor. it would be brown on the bottom, because water is clear.

6. nice idea using the stick as a tree. try adding foliage to it.

7.with your exposed wood, weatherit by giving it a light wash of gray and brown.

8. finaly once your done, give it a nice cat of clear flat.

Miles ahead of my first effort! You'll find all types of help, tricks and tips here so start digging! An important part of dio building is blending the models and accessories into their surroundings, and to make things look balanced but not forced. It's sometimes tough to do that - even for seasoned pros. Check out the site under dios and you'll find a mine of useful information. Did you airbrush the half track?

Very nice job Matthew, far better than my earlier tries at dio construction even when I was in my late teens. You are getting a very good start but as stated, try to finish the painting in matte colors on vehicles and figures and maybe add texture to your ground work as well as color variation to vegetation on the ground. Keep up the good work, Jim Rosado

bobman331 is a little hard but perfectly correct in the shared info, while a very brave and good first effort, might I add, if you're going to build armour, or aircraft, or figures then don't display them on a green floor/background, display them on a sheet of red/yellow any type of coloured paper or card - this way - the person that is viewing will see your display and not a very poor excuse for a background. Then, when people suggest rolling hills, buildings etc etc etc you can do reserach and allow your imaginarion to wander, there's a ton of stuff out there such as weathering masters, grass, trees and the like, I actually built my last model when I was about 13 years old, now 38 years later building is a whole new game, the BIG thing to try and understand is, there are people like you (skill level) those that build a whole lot better, and those that are so good, that when they photo their work you'll think its real type of builder and the thing to remember is - Don't run before you learn to walk - looking forward to many more dio's from you in the future.

Matthew,

Great post, I love your dorama, especially the paintwork, the work on the tank and the sandbags is especially good.

The good thing aout model making is that skills improve with every model made and no matter how long you leave it, your skills never go. I stopped model making when I was about your age and picked it up again 25 years later (gosh that sounds like ages!), and I've jut started where I left off.

Very well done!

i have to agree i was only using matchbox kit bases at your age

the actual models are superb and better than i manage now in braile scale ( alas the advancing years ) i remember at your age 1/72 was huge 1/35 was just gargantuan !!

the only thing i would pick up on ( and i'm sure you will advance on ) is the ground looks a little too flat ( like a billiard table ) rarely seen except on pool games .

a good next step for you would be to start sculpting your ground , say a simple field ( dont forget to press your tanks tracks in to show where it has been ) and use sprinkled grass instead of sheet grass ( i may be wrong but it looks like that's what you used )

but all in all a couple of fantastic dioramas to be proud of !!

Fantastic for your age, but I just got to point out that if you have a tank coming towards you, you dont tend to be walking towards it holding a thompson in 1 hand like that us soldier is. LOL but brilliant effort, well done
