I have a M1A1 with TUSK that I'm finishing up and a trumpeter m1a2 lower
hull that I took parts from...so here are some dio ideas

second one, but bring the wreckage to the other side of the road, and have a couple of palm trees where the wreckage was, to help add scale and height.

Agreed second one would be cool. Not many dioramas done of this type. watch your angles. i know you probably just knocked out some quick scetches for ideas, anything you can do to make the layout 'non-uniform' is good.
I like the idea of trees to give elevation and vertical scale. Trees are good fillers too. You could also look to do a guard rail or low wall maybe? A bit depends on if you're scene is going through a downtown or outside of town.

Evan the best advice I can give is look for some pics online, build up a folder of images you like, and then replicate that image. It does not have to be 100% match for a specific picture as you can add items from other pictures within reason.
