I am planning on doing a LRRP dio for a neighbor who was a 101st Airborne LRRP in 1968-69. His wife gave me a wonderful picture of his team standing by a UH-1H after a mission. Question is, should I try to find an old Revell 1/35 kit of the Huey or is the new Dragon Huey kit any good? I've read that alot of the details are over done on the Dragon kit, but they are workable. Also is DML the only company putting out a LRRP team in 1/32 or 1/35 scale? How about resin heads of vietnam commandos or special forces that I could interchange on the LRRP figures.
Thanks alot for the info.

The 1/35th Dragon Huey is not too bad. The PE adds a lot to it. It just needs some work to make it better. To really detail it nicely, you should get the Cobra Company UH-1D/H Detail and Correction set. It will give you the missing details on the inside. Also, give it a light sanding all over to knock down the huge rivets. Watch out for the optional parts, it has parts for a D, H, and civilian versions too. You have to know which version you are building. I have built two of them; a Vietnam UH-1H MedEvac, and a modern UH-1H SAR from White Sands Missile Range. Both have descriptions on how I built them.
Dragon's 1/35 LRRPs are it in plastic. They are pretty good. There are other figures in resin too, you just need to look for them. Hornet and Verlinden make heads that could be used as well.
Good luck on it. It sounds like a great project. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the info. I flew the Huey as a warrant officer with the 3rd ID in Germany from 1983 to 1989, so I'm pretty familiar with the aircraft. I will look into your suggestions for the heads.

Hi
The LRRP sets by Dragon are very nice, they also do a Seal set which could be converted.
There often on Ebay if you cant find them in a local shop.
Will be interested to see what you finally come up with.

I bought the old Revell 1/32 Huey off of ebay. The Dragon version is way too out of scale. It is not even close to the detail of 1/35 scale UH-1C gunship I built a while back. I will use Big Ed detail sets and the Cobra M60 door gun set. It is more expensive than the Dragon kit, but should look good when finished. I will use two Dragon LLRP sets with Verlinden heads to mix things up. Also the Verlinden mechanics set in 1/35 scale, these guys look very close to helicopter crew chiefs with their body armor off. I will post some pix when finished, thanks for the help.
