Hi James,

How to paint his skin? Why, with paint and a brush of course

What method/paint are you using? Just acrylics? Oil over acrylic? Enamel?

Here are two articles I can recommend:

Ethnic Skintones (Acrylic)
Color Mixing with Oils: Part 2 (See page 4 for African American skintone)

HTH

Rudi

(p.s. I'm curious, how does "Merrett" fit into your name?)

Hehehe

The acrylic mixes are really good. I've used one of the Latin mixes for Spanish Romans as well as the Irish mix for WW2 Brits It's all Vallejo, but if you need a conversion to some of the other more popular paint charts, give me a shout - I'll shoot off the conversions to you where I can

Rudi

p.s. changed the subject title of your post from "black" to "African"

Here's an article on missing lynx by Mark Bannerman that should be of help, even if you don't paint with oils.
