I experimented with a few things on this kit. It is the Tamiya, mostly oob. The barrel is armorscale, added the tire chains and made some stowage.

Hi Russ,
You'll want to just remove the word "thumbs/" from the image string

Rudi, thanks for helping with the photos. I'll get it right before too long.
Calvin, I used white craft paint over a clear flat finish. I think it was Delta Ceramacoat. Then I rubbed it with a damp q-tip. It came off where I wanted it to and gave what I thought looked like a worn away finish.

Russ,
Good job. I'm going to have to take notes now.
I hope my M8 turns out that good.

Nice but still need to be a little Bigger.
Hard to see all the detail.
Definitely needs a base.

Ant, the wheels were from the kit. I found chain at a local craft store and glued it in place as well as I could. I am trying to put a couple of figures together and modify poses a bit if I can. If it works I may place them with this or the M10 I did. Don't know yet.
I would like to put it on a base. I am going over the diorama info here to see about making muddy roads.

Looks good to me. Great whitewash and mud - it looks the part. Yes, my bias is I like the M8 without fenders and tire chains too

Hi Russ, Nice looking M8. The winter white wash came out awesome. I like the technique you used to achieve it. The use of crafters acrylic paints is something different and will have to try it sometime. again a nice looking model.

That's the way I did the whitewash on my M10 and M8. It works great.
Looks good, Russ.

Russ:
Great looking M8, how did you do the mud over the white wash? It makes all of the difference.

Robert, I used burnt umber oil on a large soft brush and fanned it on carefully. I thought the wet oil paint might go on like thin mud and it seemed to come out well.
