Neil can you take some close ups as it it hard to judge your efforts. I am getting ready to apply Cavalier Zim to a Tamiya Sturmtiger, and I would like to judge the two. I believe from the information I have been able to acquire that the zim coating continues below where you have stopped.

Hey Neil! It looks good to me You can see some of the kits surface through the pattern, that usually indicates a good 'pasting' that will look in scale. I like the damage also, did you use a comb tool or a roller? Also which medium, sorry for all the questions, but as you may know I collect and store zimmerit application details for reference. And for a final have you! ...Have you got any closer images of the zimmerit?
Looking good. Phil.

hi,
thanks, yes i will get some close up's tomorrow when i can get better light.
i used tamiyas zimm combs and the tamiya basic putty.... simply comb the putty across then do the down lines with the end of the comb.... oh and i stopped there because i am going to put the skirts on and didnt think they would fit well onto the zimm coat....
the pattern is not very deep but i like it that way. i think some patterns you see look to big and over scale.
cheers

Great start Neil, your zimmerit is looking good. Doesn't appear to be perfect, which some kits and aftermarket sets look to be, so the reality of individual applications in the factory is preserved in what you've done.
Would also be interested in your tools, material and techniques used, one of these days I take the leap and try to do it as well!
Cheers -
Tim

hi
again thankyou for the replys. really encouraging to get some feedback on it.
well here are some closer pic's. and a shot of the tools i used. this is only my second attempt at zimmerit. i wanted an imperfect finish as if i remember rightly, the sturmtiger's where built on re-com tiger hulls of an earlier model.... so the zimmerit on them i feel would be not so good and abit bashed about.
i applyed it by simply combing the putty straight on then jsut doing the vertical lines with the other end of the comb. no fancy stuff.
my other model with zimm, which is not yet finished can be seen here :

Looks pretty good to me, Neil. I've never tried "home made" zimmerit myself, and always admire those who do.
How are you finding the kit overall? I built this one last year (click on my 'photos' to see it if interested) - but I went for the easy option and used the Atak zimmerit set.
Keep us posted on your progress.

I did homemade zimmermit as well. It can be tedious. This is a nice job.

Tedious! It's one of the best parts of mid and late Tigers 132 roadwheels is possibly closer to tedium central... Good to see so many pasting their own again along with the resin sets and DML's 'on kit' zimmerit isn't such a scary task anymore. Looking forward to seeing this one with a lick of paint on.
Not tackled a 'SturmTiger' yet! I will have to have a go in the future. Phil

hi
again, thanks all for the comments. yeah i like your build steve. i think the kit goes together very well. the detail is brilliant and it builds up easier and quicker than for example a dragon kit, yes i know dragon dont do the sturmtiger but you know what i mean...
well as i said, this is only my second attempt at doing the zimm and yes i like doing it, i think some of the molded on stuff is to thick, and i'm not keep on the kits with it already on as the edges still aint covered totaly and you have joins to deal with, much more fun to paste it on yourself.
here is the latest update, i have started adding abit of paint to it, i think it really shows up well now.
again any thoughts welcome.
cheers
