i've seen spare idler wheels carried on T-34s , but did they carry spare road wheels? If so , as a joined pair (heavy ! ) or as singles like large truck tires , if you get my meaning. I need something to do with my extra road wheels.

I've never seen photos of T-34s with spare roadwheels. I have seen photos of T-34s running with four or even three roadwheels on a side. The tires were fixed to the rim, and so replacing wheels was a routine operation. Spare wheels would be on hand at repair depots and with the mobile repair battalions. Put youe extra roadwheels in a truck.

A T-34 recovery vehicle? The Red Army used artillery tractors and other tanks to recover davaged vehicles --- there was no "Berge T-34". A few were converted postwar in Austria and probably other places, but none (officially) in the USSR and none during WW2.

Standard recovery-repair vehicle for the Red Army was the PARM-1, based on the 6x4 ZiS-6. This was a workshop van built on the back of the ruck chassis, equipped with generators and lathes and compressors and other machinery. These probably travelled in the company of regular trucks carrying more portable parts such as roadwheels and tracks. In any case, mobile repair battalions travelled behind the front line, salvaging and repairing vehicles of all description. HTH

I think Jim meant by "T-34 recovery vehicle" some kind of support truck carrying spare parts etc.

I was thinking of something like the 2 tanks on page 239 0f T-34 Mythical Weapon.
Maybe steelplate the turret hole and add hatches like on the Vt-34 in the photo section. I'm sure I've got some left over from my half dozen Tamiya T-34/43s. Just add tools , some extra tow cables a couple of fuel drums - one recovery / tow vehicle , sort of a front line workshop model. Just so long as I don't have to add all those winches to the fighting compartment like Jerry did in the Bergepanther.

Actually there were a few T-34 and KV-based recovery tanks used during WW2. They were certainly not as elaborate (or as common apparently) as a bergepanther or M32 but they existed. Even those didn't carry spare roadwheels, at least from the photos I've seen. I suspect they were only really intended to provide a quick tow back to an area where the truck-based maintenance crews could work on the tanks.
