Hi Guys
Some images of the new Trumpeter WR360 C 12. Everybody still talks about how nice their KVs were to build ... well add this one to that list. Engineering and fit are excellent. Clean up was minimal throughout ... except for some shallow ejector marks on the cab interior surfaces. These could be scraped away with a scalpel ... no need for filling. A very enjoyable build throughout.

The build was toatlly OOB, excpet for the plate on the rear step. Im surprised Trumpeter didn´t add some anti-slip for this as well as all the other step pieces ..... as the locator holes show in the plain plastic piece given. I added some anti-slip plating from an old PE set for fenders, and added some strips at the side as the fender piece wasn´t wide enough.

The instructions ask that the front wall of the cab be fixed to the engine body, but I glued it to the cab assembly instead so that painting would be easier.

No engine is supplied, but there is one available somewhere ... but Im sure this is something that will be easily available soon. Surprisingly there is no decals either .. so some will have to be scrounged elsewhere. The AM companies will have a field day with this kit!!

Images of the sprues and other items in the kit can be seen on Trumpeters own page HERE

Andrew Judson has also nice images of the sprues on his "in the box review" on Missing Links.
See HERE

I had another thread on "Armorama - railroading" looking for some interior images and references. This can be seen HERE . A big "THANK YOU" to those guys on Armorama and IPMS Stockhom who replied and helped. Cheers.

Hi Darren. Features will come some day .. when I have more time. Work is killing me at the moment, and the little time I have goes to actual modelling. Hopefully the positive feedback and build images here, will be enough for those considering purchasing this kit

Believe me .... if I had the time ... you wouldn´t even have to try
If somebody else has this kit, and cares to write a review ... they are welcome to add these built images and notes, into a review for the site!!

Frank,

That is a nice looking kit. I've been thinking about getting one to add to my Leopold build.

I just finished mine too. I wouldn't put it quite in the same league as the KV kits but it is a nice easy build with no real 'gotchas'. One of the things that amazes me is there are only about 270 parts for a kit the size of a Tiger II. It makes for a very quick build; I finihed mine in half a weekend.

I wasn't able to find much reference material on this loco so I don't know how good the cab is - that seemed like the only really weak area to me, only because it was so sparse, but for all I know it is accurate.

Nice catch on the treadplate behind the cab- I missed that.

Great progress, Frank,
it has turned to beauty already, now I can see that Trumpeter has the interior simplified enough, but like you say " The AM companies will have a field day with this kit!!" With their announcement (railway upcoming kit thought now) I believe the Chinese have hit a white spot to fill up in the battlefield.

Nice work Frank and good to hear it's a straight forward build. I've fancied this kit since the first news of it.

Any idea what colours should be used on the cab, the only photos I have show naturel metal on a post war example but I am not sure that is right in WW2.

Thanks again guys for the very nice comments. They´re appreciated very much. I wont be painting this for a while as I have some other things to finish up before the Swedish IPMS Open in April. Still deciding to if I´ll add any more details to the cab before painting ... and hopeing something else might turn up in the meantime (WWP book might have something, but its not released yet).

According to the book I have received and discussed with its author everything seems that during WWII period the interior was painted the same like exterior, RAL 7011, with red valves. Unfortunately I have no permit to show any picture. However, the interior is really very simplified in the kit and I would just recommend to wait a couple months, as there will be definitely some upgrade sets available.

Frank,

One thing I am wondering about the loco is how long is it? I have my Leopold almost doen and would love to put the WR360 with it, if there is anough room left on my railbed.

Hay Frank

Very nice build. I had to shim the road wheels out a little to make them fit the track better. I have a couple of questions about the pictures of the cab interior. They show the controls on the opposite side, as with the kit.
I got mine from Great Models yesterday. Baluard makes and Motor and Transmission for it. I plain on getting one to put in mine.

The interior in the kit is very simplified, but it matches well, control panel on my pictures is put more to the right, it ends just in the middle of the right window, but this one can be all right too, as there were many small changes during the manufacturing. Balduar´s engine is available for 39 euro, but it is slightly different from the original one. That will need a big job to get it right, but it can be good enough, if you want to show up just part of it, leaving the side door or top cover of the engine cowling open.
