Hi Guys,
I hace a ( perhaps ) stupid question:
I'm painting a M1a1 USMC Abrams in 3-tone Nato color and i was wondering what color the CIP panels on the side or front of turret should have.
Are they just plain green or are the painted in some other color ?
I'm a little but confused, because on the Net I found pictures of them that have a light color, almost like sand !!

The CIPs come in both sand and forest green. Either color can be seen on NATO camo or sand tanks. It depends what color is ordered and what color the supply system has to fill that order. You can order one color and receive the other.

It's more like one NSN (national stock number) is an authorized substitute for the other. If you order one color, and if it is on hand, you will get it. If it is not and the other one is there, they will ship that one. The supply system realizes it is more important to have the item in any color than to not have it.Hi Gino,

If the system didn't have authorized substitutes worked into it, you would have someone who really needed a sand colored one waiting for it to be made by the manufacturer and shipped to the Army when the supply system had green ones on hand.

If you're inclined to be a little different, you can do them in brown as well.

Hmm, I've never seen them brown, just sand and forest green, like almost all other parts in teh supply system. Are you talking about just doing it because he can? I don't think they come in brown, and it would degrade their IR signature if you paint them.

In 2003 and 2004, I saw them in a sort of semi-gloss coyote brown (we called it 'baby-poo brown') in a number of places. The rippled IFF panels came that way too. It's a sort of dark khaki color.
I don't see them much anymore, but they were around for a while.
