Hi. for the 'Blitzkrieg 2:Africa' in june i will be building dragon's panzer III J. i'm going to put this in a desert dio with some figures, but i haven't been able to find any suitable for my purpose. ideally i would like some tank crewmembers briefing some infantry, or vice versa, but i would settle for the tank crew looking at a map and perhaps scanning the horizon. can anyone recommend a suitable figure set. ideally i don't want to have to buy more than one set, and 2 would be a maximum.

Just off the top of my head, I know Tristar has some DAK sets.

Tristar make two excellent Afrika Korps sets that would suit, You can see them in this article by Jim Rae on Tristar figures

Hi Luke alternatively if the figures suggested aren't what you're after have you tried looking what resin figures are available from either Verlinden, Plus model,or Warriors they might have a set available suitable for your needs

Alpine has some great DAK figures, as do Tank.

The thing to remember with the DAK is that the armoured and infantry troops all wore basically the same uniform. There were slight detail differences wrt to tankies, as they used European insignia and sometimes headgear, but by large they were pretty much the same.

sure thing i'll put it in a new topic, either in here for just the figures or as part of a dio build log for the whole build including the panzer. that will be after the start of the blitzkrieg 2 campaign though so you've got a bit of a wait. before that though i plan to build dragon's very nice T34/85 with bedspring armour. i'm a sucker for etch so i had to buy this kit when i saw it. my other figure question however is has anyone used the tamiya russian assualt infantry, and would these figures fit on a t34 with bedspring armour?

the box shows them on tamiya's T-34/85 but i guess they'd fit on the dragon kit though you'd have to change the placement for some of the figures due to the bedspring armor. dragon does some tank riders to, as does miniart, though with the miniart figs you might want to replace their heads. Ant

Hi Luke my bro has used the Tamiya Russian infantry on one of his T-34 so i can't see it being a problem getting them to go on the Dragon kit the one thing you might want to think of is probably replacing some of the figures weapons with more upto date Dragon ones

damn my bro beat me to it

You may want to ask this in a new topic, as folks may not expect to see your Soviet question in this thread - which opens with a DAK question

Rudi

p.s. I've also changed your topic title - it was a bit vague, which may be why you haven't got as many DAK suggestions as I would have expected...

i had a look what both those manufacturers have to offer, but Tamiya seems to be the best i can find, and i've been quite impressed with thier moldings recently, although i was a little surprised to find that my dragon flak 88 crew were about 1' in scale bigger than my tamiya mg crew. i don't find this to be a problem unless two dioramas are displayed together so that dragon and tamiya figures are near each other.

Tamiya figures are generally short or look like dwarves. Id go with the Dragon set ... so much nicer.
