Hey Steve,
I don't think they had stars but they did have U.S. War Department registration numbers.
This site will help:

Hi Steve if the jeeps the US sent over during the lend-lease to Russia did have any US markings then i'd imagine the Russians would have just painted over them

Well they didn't paint over the US markings and shipping Stencils on the Shermans so I doubt they would bother doing so with jeeps

All manner of vehicles were shipped w/registration and shipping stencils but not stars. US units would apply stars were unit level. All lend lease equipment in transit I've seen is w/o markings. An exception would be aircraft. I've seen pics of P-39 Airacobras and P-63 Kingcobras leaving the US factories with Soviet stars painted on them.

None of the photos of Russian Shermans that have seen in the book "Commanding the Red Army's Shermans" have US Markings. I doubt that any equipment used by the Soviets would have had US/British markings in service.

I have seen B/W photos of Lend Lease M3 Lees, M3 Stuarts in combat with U.S.A. WD numbers in pale blue, yellow or white still visible on the www.
Will look for some and will post if possible.

On a related note, all jeeps originally came from the factory with blue drab registration numbers. Later, in about mid '43, white was used at the factory. Some units repainted the blue drab to white once they were issued as well.

I should have limited my comment to stars.
