Hey there,
So, Im a total newbie. Just got into this a couple weeks ago. I've been watching some youtube vids which helps a lot, however, i'm having major difficulty replicating the effect of worn paint. My current project is a Jagdtiger and i plan on priming the hull red, and colouring the vehicle a sandy yellow, which will have the effect, showing the red hull below it. This artist does something similar with a winter camouflage at 2:10.

My problem is that when i gloss the original colour, lay my top colour, and use thinner to take the top coat away like him, it simply eats through all of my layers to reveal the grey plastic, even using a minimal amount thinner.
Also, the artist in the video has his paint tear, were as mine seems to melt.
I'm using Tamiya paints, Tamiya thinner, and Testors dull coat spray laquer for sealant if that helps.
If anyone has any idea how to do this properly or another method that works well, please help. Thanks!

Hey Caolan This is what is known as the "hairspray method" Never tried it myself, I've used salt weathering in its place but I know some people swear by it.

Try using enamel for your base coat. Let it dry good, and use acrylic for the top coat. When you apply the thinned top coat it will not dissolve the red base coat.

Thanks man. The MIG thread is awesome. Ill have to go to the mall and pic up some hair spray. I'm flabbergasted we have none in a home filled with girls. If i can figure that out, it will sky rocket my game.
