ok,
I know that there are many ways to make snow for dioramas. What I would like to know is, what would be the best stuff to use to make realistic snow?
When I was younger, in my early years of modelling I used to use baking soda for my dios, in time though, it yellowed. So now that I am older and hopefully wiser I would like to know a more realistic way. I guess what I am looking for is something that looks cold, if the weather is warming up, maybe same stuff to look like slush?

I still use baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) now. If I want slush, I put some gloss varnish or watered down PVA onto it and hey presto!

I'm still with Dave.
Baking soda and a spray of hairspray.
I'm slowly not needing the hair spray anymore ,so I have plenty to spare.

I use mix of baking soda, white glue and water - mix water with glue (1:1 or 1:2) and add soda until you have something milk-shake-like. Than apply on diorama.

Diorama I've made over 1 year ago is still covered with white (not yellow) snow.

Jody,

I'm with the guys on this.
I did, however, see a product in my local hobby store today.
"Snow in a Bottle." Not sure if I like the sound of that. I'll have to pick some up and compare it.
I just caught the name, but not who makes it. Sorry.

Try the model railroad section of your LHS - a number of companies make snow products that would work equally well for model diorama's. Hudson and Allen Studio also make a snow product for the diorama market.

I've used the Snow, Slush and Mud on my dioramas and vehicles, it's good
Cheers

Techstar makes a product for snow, I use Micro-Balloons resin filler. The Techstar stuff is about the same as Micro-Balloons only more expensive.

I just saw some snow by Woodland Scenics at the local hobby shop the other day. It looked real good in the jar.
However it was kind of frustrating to see they were charging $17 for it when I had to drive through a snow storm to get there at - 30 deg C just to buy some field grass instead.

I recently used, with self-satisfying results, Woodland Scenics Snow (Soft Flake) on a small diorama I've been working on for quite some time.
You can see for yourslef if you go to the new Tanks and Things web site and look under the Finished Models gallery.
