Good day all -

Am working on AFV's 88mm Flak 18 (#35088) and not sure that I'm liking the vinyl tires. Does anyone out there make a resin aftermarket / replacement set for these? Haven't had much luck looking for any so far.

Thanks! Appreciate the help.

Cheers -

Tim

Hi Tim,

AM wheels for the 88mm? I've not seen any, but then again???
Is it the tread patten that's bugging you or the overall look?

The vinyl ones can be made up do look like the real thing.
Just repaint with rubber color. 2 coats should do the trick.

Bill,

I'm shocked!!! In your many travels in this site, never have you heard of this color?

All kidding aside, Testors makes it. I found it by accident, looks pretty damn close to the real thing.

Road wheels on this M24 are painted in that very color.

Same with this Tamiya Jeep.

Oh, I thought you meant a paint designed to cover rubber that would seal vinyl tires.

I use some railroad actyllic (Polyscale?) that has "oily black."

Bill,

I think repainting the vinyl may cut down on the "toy like" look.
At least cutting down the shine.

Hi Tim
Put an ad in the buy/sell/trade forum. Maybe somebody who built the Dragon versions, hasnīt bothered with the trailers, and would sell7trade their wheels. Dragonīs are beautiful, and polystyrene!

Thanks Brian - Just don't like the way they fit over the hub, maybe I'm just too picky. The mold line down the middle of the tread pattern is a pain to clean up as well, must be spoiled as all! Painting them isn't a problem, have some 'rubber' paint as well, so no worries there!

Hi Frank - I've got Dragon's version at the house, hadn't even thought of that! Perfect! Appreciate the tip!

Hope to be done with the build in a week or so, then onto the painting! Cheers!

Hi Tim,

Glad to help.

Take a Dremel to the tires. Cleans up better, don't worry about nicking it up. Adds weary look to them, Heck a few flat spots never hurt.
