Could you fellow modellers please give me ideas? I have made some hardwood bases with routed edge and varnished they several times. What is the best way to then apply scenic base on top ?????? I have tried putting a layer of plaster of paris onto the wood and then sand/pva glue watered.

I use plaster with a little PVA mixed in. I build up the terrain gluing styrofoam cut from packing or insulation to the base and then apply the plaster over it. I've never had any problem with cracking or shrinking.
