Hello everyone. I've been lurking for a while on this fine forum and hope you all won't mind if I join in the discussion. I'm in the mid stages of building a Tamiya M1A2 and before I get any further along, I have a question. Are standard A2s fitted with the TUSK kit or only A1s and A2 SEPs?
Thanks!

Chuck,
Most, if not all, M1A2s have been/are being run throught the reset line at Lima OH to become M2A2SEPs. If there are any straight M1A2s, they would be at Ft Knox, KY in the training unit's equipment pool. The three M1A2 units (1st Cavalry Division, 4th Infantry Division, & 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment) all have M1A2SEPs.
The rest of the active Army and USMC are slowly folling their M1A1 Heavy Common tanks for M1A1AIMs. So you would probably not find TUSK on a M1A2... I believe thatthe ARNG will also get AIMs sometime in the future (I have not read thsi anyplace but makes sense in my retired tanker pea brain).

Thanks for the info. That sort of leads to my next question. Were there ever any standard M1A2s in Iraq or were only SEPs deployed?

Chuck,
3rd ACR had M1A2s for their inital deployment in 2003 -2004 as well as 2005-2006. They turned in those tanks in the summer-fall of 2006 and drew "new" SEPs.

That's what I needed to know, thanks! Now I can go on and finish up my model.
