What can I use to model rope and what colour would it be? I am thinking of the thicker rope.

For what concerns the rope (if it's a rope and not a towing cable) you can use a... rope! You'll find it in the naval section of your hobby stores they've got a huge selection. Sorry no clue about the color...

If you mean the ropes on German tanks you should use metal color, like the one from Tamiya, X-10 (or was it XF-10??). There was no Rost (I don't know the english word ) on them because they were pasted with some materials, like lipides (I mean Fett).

Hope you can use my help!

Don't forget that WWII German tow ropes and the like had a LEFT hand twist as opposed to the right hand twist on allied ropes etc........IT DOES make a difference.

sorry to clarify I meant rope made of twine to hold baggage, and tie stuff down, the thick rope but not tow cable.

So go for the naval section of your hobby shop where you'll find a wide variety of them...
