I want to build a SU-85 damaged by an internal explosion , and as the roof will be buckled up by the blast , I need some pictures or drawings of the interior. The gun breach , drivers station ( is the seat and controls raised ? the drivers hatch / vision ports are higher than the T-34 tank ) and various storage ,ammo, etc. The title of any books or photo sites that might have the info I need would be most appreciated. tkx Jim

AFAIK, the SU-100 was basically a upgunned SU-85 ...so maybe these pics of a wrecked SU-100 could be helpful

Thanks Frenchy , those should help a lot. Pretty basic ,some seats ,ammo racks and a very large gun breach. The rest is standard T-34. Now all I need is 35 + 85mm shells.
Thanks again.. Jim

There are two recent Russian books on the SU-85. One is caled 'SU-85' from Voennaya Letopis'. The second is from Eksmo, called 'Samokkhodka'. Both are worthwhileif you are interested in the subject. There is a thread from last week on ML (search Rethoret) where you can find western sources for these.

Cheers

Thanks for the info Scott , just one question..what is ML ?? I'm a little behind the times on all these abreaveations you guys use . Not too mention trying to find stuff on the net.
Is the Wydawnictwo Militataria book on SU-85/100/122 worth getting ?? Got the volume on KW vol II / II with the extra packet of 1/35 drawings .... maybe try one of those some day.
Thks again Jim

Sitting up here in snowy Red Deer . 3rd day of spring my a##. Thanks for the lead on some books , there's a lot more available now than in the late 70s. Just had the squadron & some osprey/vanguard. Used a lot of the Ballentine WW 2 books for photo reference. No german or Russian books at all. Guess I'm going to have to get a translation program for my computer. Thanks also for directing me to ML, once Frenchy told me what it was. Another site to spend hours on...........JIm

On many occasions, Google Langage tools have been useful to me (even if not perfect )
