I am having a dellema about manufactured trees. I would like to know who makes the best looking trees interms of realism and authenticity.
Meaning, I would like to know who makes trees that look like trees and not plastic branches with foam on them.
I have talked to my local RR shop but was not very helpfull in my search.

the trees look pretty realistic and you can probably make them for alot less than you would pay for at a store

I used the youtube link and I have to say they look AWESOME. I will post what I did for less than 20 bucks later on.

OK. So I used the guy on youtube's tutorial, bear with my 4 mp camera....

I got some different stuff, just the fibrous furnace filter.

spray and step one done. I used a few different trees, just wanted to show the potential of this process





DONT PUT TOO MUCH GLUE ON..... SERIOUSLY. LEARNED THAT REAAAAL QUICK. IT WILL ALL STICK TOGETHER AND BE NASTY.

Primed flat black...



A little brown...



Then after they set a little light dustin and voila. You can prune off the trash the next day when it hardens up. LESS THAN $20.





So if you watch the video follow the step you can have these. I can probably make around 20 or so.

The thing I really dig about the youtube link...or "The Kamloopian" as he has dubbed himself, is that he does things as inexpensuve as possible, which is spot on for me.
I was looking for flox (grass) down at one of the local shops and three HO scale trees from Woodland Scenics were 19.99, that wqas what I spent for five of these trees, although the treemendus looks awesome. The guy on youtube has some tutorials about doing wire too. Check his channel. I admire someone willing to share all of that expertise with the public for free.

The branches look fine, but the trick to good trees is the trunk. How do you turn a plain dowl into a bark-covered trunk.
