Hi All,
Did the British use the cast hull version of the Sherman (e.g DML's El Alamein kit) in the '44 Normandy capaigns?
TIA

Yes they did have some but I'd have to look up who exactly had them ...They would be a little later than the type Alamein though ...More like the late Tasca kit ...

Yes, Sherman I's were used by the British 4th Armoured Brigade. No, these were not the same type depicted by the DML El Alamein kit. They were the later versions with not direct vision hulls and the later VVS suspension. More like this:

Cheers Richard,
I'd guessed if they were still used they would've been modernized somewhat.
Since posting I've come across this Pic on the IWM site B 6633
It clearly shows a cast hulled Sherman.
So Tasca is the way to go eh?

The Tasca has a riveted lower hull, so it's a little too early for this. It would also need the later sharp nosed final drive housing. Actually the DML kit isn't a bad place to start. Note that some of the Sherman I's used in that period had the high bustle turrets.

good photos!
Following on with this questions, did the British armoured divisions also use late prod M4A1(75)'s? They're the type with larger driver and radio-op hatches. Most of my references only show mid models although I do have one photograph of a DD with this style of hatch.
Ive got a little kitbashing planned in the near future. Essentially swapping the M4A3 hull from the revell/italeri calliope with the (wrong) cast hull from the italeri M32. Just using up whats in the unbuilt stash to do it.
What I'm left with is a late prod M4A1 and I'd like to do it in British colours if possible. If not it'll have to be US.
Any help would be appreciated.
