Hi,
I am building Masterbox's d-day infantry set (no. 3520) and am trying to add some detail to the flamethrower on one of the figures. I beleive it is an M1A1 variant, but I am having trouble finding any decent photos or diagrams of it online to help me. The masterbox instructions aren't great either and so i'm a bit stuck and was hoping someone might have some good pics of this variant instead of the later M2.
In particular the hose detail at the rear and the correct way up the hand held part of the flamethrower should be held, as I have seen it with the tank part on the top and the bottom, or am I confusing it with the M1 variant?
I appreciate any help!
James

According to the accompanying text ( http://www.geocities.com/eco16thinf/ORDNANCEPAGEFLAMETHROWER.html ), here's a M1A1 :

Hi Sabot,
Thanks a lot but unfortunately your picture shows the later M2 style. The most obvious difference is the hand held portion with two 'pistol grips'. The M1 and M1A1 versions didn't have these.
Thanks Frenchy, that is the best pic I have found online and does show the layout well. Its where the pipe joins the tanks and the correct way up the hand-held portion should be held that i'm really needing help with. I can't define whether the hydrogen tank on the hand held part is at the top or the bottom when used in action?
Any detail shots would also be very useful!

Even if the picture quality is rather poor, it seems that the hydrogen tank is at the bottom when used (that would be logical to me...) :

Thanks Frenchy,
Good work!
If you look on the masterbox box art the tank is at the top which is what threw me. Still there are a few inaccuracies in the kit so i'll take the reference pic as evidence anytime!
I'd still appreciate any detail reference pics if anyone has them!
Thanks again,
James

Here at least you can see the M1 flamethrower gun, along with a M2 flamethrower (the M1A1 gun should be very similar if not the same) :

BTW there's a M1A1 included in DML Tarawa USMC figures set :

Hi Frenchy,
Thanks again for the pic, the only difference I can make out between the M1 and M1A1 hand held portion is that the front nozzle part of the M1 is bent at an angle whereas on the M1A1 it is straight.
This would mean that the DML Tarawa set is of the M1 not the M1A1, but is still useful to see how they tackled it.
I beleive there are some differences in the rear tanks too but I can't be too sure.
Cheers,
James
