hi all
finally I finished it. It's my first british WW2 tank, I usually build germans
DML firefly VC. I built it almost straight from the box, just added weld joint.
the figure from Ultracast british/canadian tanker.
I'm quite satisfied with the result, and have a plan to build another firefly with complete accesories.
any critics and comments are welcome
cheers

Chris,
You've every right to be satisfied as that is a fine looking tank. I've built the same kit and it too got me started on British armor. Did the kit give you problems? ( it gave me fits , though I would build another). Well done sir
Cheers
Dave

my main problem was gap between upper and lower hull, but it could be fixed with styrene strip

Looks nice! One thing that you might want to correct is the lifting ring on the left side hull. Yours is positioned atop the pistol port door. It actually is supposed to be on the turret wall itself, just like the one on the right side. Look here:
Also for future Sherman projects, note that the raised lip around the pistol port is integral with the turret wall so should be seamless (not like DML or Tamiya turret pistol ports). To correct on future Shermans, fill in the seam with putty.

Like it a lot ! Very tidy build and finish. Love the relaxed pose of the tanker as well, what is the part number for this guy, I may get 1 or 2 myself for the few project's I have ongoing.

Hi Chris,
Very good work on the Sherman and the figure is one of my favourites. Only comment would be use Vallejo English Uniform for the colour. BD is more a brownish colour.
Look forward to seeing a few more!!

Nice job, but I'm curious about the markings. What unit is that and are they supposed to be that small?

Super work! I can't believe it's in 35th scale. I don't know why, but I got a slight feeling the fig is a bit too small.

Chris,
I like your build. Super job!!!! This happens to be my favorite of the sherman series of tanks and your is truely outstanding. I especially like how you have rendered the olive drab green . . . with just the right amount of weathering.

Paul, I think the kit instructions are wrong.
The kit I have indicates that they're for the 4th County of London Yeomanry, known as the Sharpshooters.
IIRC, the 4th CLY was part of the British 22nd Armoured Brigade but the markings appear to actually be for the British 27th Armoured Brigade.
Maybe AlanL can shed some additional light ??

Chris, the white "Invasion" star was used as an vehicle recognition marking by Allied units in Normandy and in North West Europe.
British, Canadian and other Allied units also painted white stars on the sides of their vehicles occasionally.
http://www.geocities.com/earlymb/markings.html
Some Canadian units occasionally would try and pi** off our American cousins by painting the stars upside down or with the top point slightly tilted to one side.

Well, if that's a small yellow seahorse on a triangle light blue shield, then that's the 13/18 Hussars. (Sorry, there are no clear closeups of the rear.) The white star was also used as an aerial identification markings, better visible from the air than the previously used british roundels.

Sorry, this is the 27 Armoured Brigade, the 13/18 Hussars were just a regiment of the Brigade.

Hi Chris,
Nice clean build. Like you my preference is building German WWII AFVs. My first time to build a Sherman. Am trying to build the same DML Vc but as a beautepanzer -- though I've run into disaster when it came to fitting the tracks, and am near to junking the kit. How did you fit the tracks in your build?
Thanks,
Tat

Quoted Text... the 13/18 Hussars. ...
Sorry, this is the 27 Armoured Brigade, the 13/18 Hussars were just a regiment of the Brigade.
However, the '51' AoS sign on the front means the tank belonged to the senior Armoured Regt of the Brigade - in other words, (in Normandy) the13/18th Hussars. The other two Regiments were the Staffordshire Yeomanry and 1 East Riding Yeomanry.
The Brigade was disbanded on 30th July 1944.
One point however - the A Sqn tac sign should ideally be in red, not blue.
