Hi everyone

I'm looking for someone that lives or is near Aberdeen Proving Grounds that would be interested in taking pictures and detailed pictures of the "Little David" 36" Mortar for me. It is located on one of the roads there. I'm trying to collect enough information so that I can scratch built it.

Thank you for any help,

Ralph

You might try posting in the "events" forum. The AMPS international show is in a little over two weeks and there is a tour of APG for those who signed up. You may find one of those folks. Otherwise I suspect there are other folks going to the show who will also be visiting APG that may be able to get the pics you are after.

Have you tried Kevin's site Mortars in Miniature? He has a site dedicated to mortars with photos, manuals and models.

Hi Ralph,

There's a pretty neat page here which shows Little David being prepped for action and also being transported on TWO M26 prime movers.

Sounds like an ambitious project - good luck.

all the best

PS there's also a video

Thank you all for your reply.

Matt, I have just posted in AMPS.

Sabot, I have searched Kevin"s site with no luck. I will try and contact him.

acav, I foud that site about 3 weeks ago and it got me interested in this scratch build again.

I still need detailed picture of everything to make it acurate.

Again thank you,

Ralph

WOW! Watch that film, this baby was a death machine. I do not recall ever having heard it was used in combat...does anyone know?

Never got outside the lower 48.

BTW there was a pretty reasonable, but not great, Little David in 1/35 at AMPS 2-3 years ago. Impressively big, for sure. The scratchbuild was of the mortar in towed configuration with the Dragon Wagon tractor. Very cool, I just wish it had been a bit better built. It got Silver, I think?

Thank goodness, the darn thing must have taken an engineer company to put into action-- the hole, the crane, the slope on the entry to the pit and the two M-26s to move it....time consuming operation to say the least. Good luck with the build.

Thank you all for the encouragement.

The Mortar took a total of 10 to 12 hrs. from deployment to disassembly after firing and ready to move to new location.

Regards,

Ralph
