Hi there
Sorry if this is an old topic, but I'm hoping someone may have an answer to an airbrushing problem which has plagued me on and off for years.
What happens is that when I spray into corners and wing-roots etc., the paint (or varnish - Klear does it with a vengeance) dries before it settles and builds up a rough texture. I know it must be due to the airflow bouncing around in these tight spaces, but the question is how to stop it...
I'm using a Badger Crescendo 175T with a fine tip and an Airmaster Plus compressor. I don't have a pressure regulator.
It would be great to learn if there's an answer - I'm getting fed up with sanding down my rough paint-jobs!
Cheers everyone

Rowan, it sounds like your paint is drying too fast - drying just before it hits the surface of your model. Are you shooting acrylics? This happens with them sometimes. I thin my acrylics (Tamiya) at least 50% (Lacquer Thinner) and never have had that problem since. I don't use extenders - products to delay the drying time of acrylic paints (also called flow enchancers) - but others have with success.
Shooting Johnson's Kleer (Future here in the US) I do not thin it. I do apply it in very thin coats, however. Plain water works well if you find you need to thin Kleer anymore than it already is, and will extend the dry time a little bit.

I was having the same problem . I sprayed a little closer with lower air pressure and thinned the paint.

Hi guys,
Thanks for answering so soon!
The problem doesn't happen every time, but can occur with pretty much with any type of paint. I do thin the paint well, and build up thin coats. Trouble is more coats mean rougher paint!
I had a nasty feeling someone might mention turning down the air pressure. It looks like I'll have to get a regulator...
All the best
