This sounds very promissing and looks good too!
I know the first version of this book.
In what way does this "späte" version differ from the "frühe" (or is it Ausf.A) version?

Ron, The gun mount was the difference in the two versions. The later version mounted the gun on top where the forward mg 42 was mounted. The late version allowed field conversions. The earlier gun mount was special made to be installed oposite the driver.
This conversion could not be done in the field. Look over the cover shot carefully. You will see the prototype vehicle in B & W, then a color drawing of a D model both have low mounts.
Their is a front view drawing of a high mount D model. You may be able to see the difference in the high & low mounts. This is a good book for 251 fans.

It's a very interesting book. However unfortunatly the faults in the original edition have bot been corrected. ( Mistakes made in museum restauration are presented as actual period modifications.) Use it in combination with the Panzertracts volume on the Sdkfz 251 Ausf C/ D.
