The most realistic results seem to be from guys who are taking the time to replicate the surface with fine particles and an adhesive of some sort. One guy is acheiving great results using various grades of chinchilla sand.There a few relatively recent threads on this.

Couple of ways i have seen it done. Rust-Oleum Multicolor Textured paint. Another way is using 150 Micron sand. Its a alumium oxide sand for use in a sand blast cabinet. Chinchilla sand is a little coarse. You can run it threw a very fine sieve to get the larger particles out. If using the sand, use hairspray to attach the sand after masking the areas you dont want anti-slip on. Hope this helps

Here is one of the threads that discussed how to add non-slip using various methods;

Subject: M1A1 Abrams Help Non slip coating

Read all of it and the linked threads and I think you will get most of the methods that people have tried. I've personally tried the Rustoleum spraycoat and I think it will work for 1/72 scale, so it should work for 1/35. Unfortunately, I don't know if its available in the UK.

Good Luck!!

HI,

tHE CHEAPEST AND MOST EFFECTIVE LOOKING NON SLIP COATING FOR MERKAVA
AND OTHER IDF ARMOURED VEHICLES IS GROUND CINAMMON.

FIRST USE SLIGHTLY WATER DILUTED WOOD GLUE ON THE AREA YOU WISH TO COVER THEN SPRINKLE THE GROUND CINAMMON OVER IT SHAKE OFF THE EXCESS LET DRY PAINT OVER WITH ACRYLIC GREY PAINT AS PRIMER LET DRY AND YOU HAVE SCALE NON SLIP SURFACE. TRY IT ON A PIECE OF SCRAP PLASTIC AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. IT WORKS.

REGARDS

hey charles , i'm set to build the academy mk 2 merkava and was gonna do non slip using the mr. surfacer spray on method as used on the challenger 2 in an article by Marcus Nicholls in the august '04 edition of TMMI . do you have any references or plans of the areas of hull and turret that receive the coating that you would be willing to share ? thanks
