Hey All,
I've got DML's 6205 kit, the T34/76 1941 with the winter camo on the box top. I love that camo scheme, but have you seen wartime pics of this? I've learned not to trust all the box art you see!
Thanks!

Daniel,
thanks so much for your response and that great photo! Is there a really good place to check on the web to get more photos of that winter scheme? I would love to see other angles of the T34 to see how they applied that to other parts of the tank.
Thanks again!
Mike

Hi Mike, These scheme is definately a "classic" Battle of Moscow look. I do not know if you care (or should care) but the tanks with that scheme were of slightly different make than the Dragin kit that the box art belongs to. It is close, but not quite right. If you really care about those opesky details. Let me know and we can talk more about it. EMail me with a real e-mail address. HTH, DK

My information is that this camouflage was pretty specific to 1 GvTkBde at Moscow. Most of their T-34s were STZ types, but there were also some Sormovo T-34s. The quilted camouflage is also seen on BA-10 and 45mm AT guns in photos of the brigade that winter, and many can be seen in the Frontline monograph on the unit.
As for "how it went", the camouflage is pretty much random, and the same, as in the photo. The bands were about that wide and spaced about that far apart, the quilting was the same scale, and they were wrapped around the tank, one over the turret and one over the hull, sometimes with a stripe on the front or back. They are quite dirty/muddy and the whitewash is worn.
The tanks themselves are a hodgepodge. This is right when they were changing everything from the KhPZ pattern to the STZ pattern, and Sormovo was just coming onstream. Moscow was threatened, so everything went there directly, no sorting anything out. So go for it.
Cheers
