I have the same kit, an excellent effort by Academy. I believe it is a whole new tooling by Academy. They are trying to distance themselves from their earlier offerings I think. (I'm sure I will be corrected here)
I think the new Academy Tiger 1 kit is superior to the Tamiya offering. So. If it's a Tamiya product, they've done a good job too. But I believe it's an Academy kit thru and thru.

I got the Academy early Tiger kit also, and, for the most part, really liked it. The only problem I have with it are the vinyl treads - they're very stiff and hard to work with - which makes it tough to get the characteristic sag to the treads that the Tiger had. This was one of the first armor kit I built, so I didn't worry about it at first. Recently, I broke the kit down and repainted/weathered it, but try as I might, I couldn't get the treads to sag realistically. I don't know what kind of plastic they're made of, but nothing I tried, superglue, model glue, nothing would stick them to the wheels - and unfortunately pretty much ruined the wheels trying to do it . I may have to pick up another of these kits and this time get a set of individual track links for it. Other than that, an excellent kit.

I just bought this kit at AMPS. Unfortunately it is the one without
the interior, but I don't mind.
As was said - It is an Academy kit thru & thru, and in my opionion, and
a few others ( see May issue FSM ), is far superior than Tamiya's.
I probably will end up buying the Friul Track set for it, to improve it's
authenticity & realism.
I might note that if you intend on portraying this Tiger I in a certain time frame,
be careful as there were very few if not any that used the Fiefel Air system after
1944. It would be rare to see a Tiger with the Fiefel Sys. at that time. They were transported
to the sPz.Abt with it attached in 1942, but were removed by the Werksattkompanie
when found it did not suit it's purpose for certain enviroment's.
HAVE FUN - IT'S A GREAT KIT !

KMM,
You might try soaking the treads first in hot water, this will soften the vinyl. Then after you install them use a super glue to attach them to the top of the road wheels, to recreate their normal sag. Take a small wooden shim between the tread and the bodywork to hold the tread in place till the glue drys, let it sit with the shims in place for 24 hours.

the early tiger by academy is one of the best kits out their. with the help of modelkasten tracks, aber photoetch and verlinden engine parts, this will be a fantastic model. i have both the early and mid models w/interiors by academy, they are the best tigers i've got.

Gentlemen,
Academy also makes a set of injection molded individual link tracks for this kit. Try them, less than Fruil and you can build in the track sag.
