I like to use german dunkelgelb for the base color, and then a heavily thinned coat of burnt sienna, intentionally streaked.....makes nice woodgrain especially if you use a worn out brush. Change the base color to light brown or tan to get different results.

I usually start with a yellowish color, then dry brush on a red brown, a dark brown, and a medium gray, in that order. Builds up a pretty nice variety of colors. Just remember to always work in the same direction as the imagined wood grain.

I like to use Testors flat earth...wash over with a pastel brown wash thinned with terpantine. Makes a most realistic wood effect!
