Sabot, you're the one for this. I'm about to wrap up converting the Academy M60A3 to the M728 using the AEF conversion kit, a lot of research and not a little artistic license!
There rises a question regarding the travel lock for the 105mm barrel on the engine deck. What would go in this location, if anything at all? Could I score a reference photo, as the kit lock seems superflorous, given the short demo gun on the CEV. I just developed photos of an M728 at Leonard Wood's outdoor museum, but overlooked the lock.
Help?

Minicraft/Academy had announced this kit, then they produced the M60 w/M9 dozer and era. They realized the mistake and last I heard Academy is SUPPOSED to be releasing a M728 CEV sometime this year...think december 30th.

Info comes from two main sources...the Fine Scale Modeler listing of future kits, and the Perth Military Modelling Society link, which is a top notch group dealing with the industry.
http://pmms.webace.com.au/newkitnews/newf.htm
Listed as kit 1396
named as M-728 CEV Vietnam
Release date is (2003)
That is all I know for now. will have to see what comes from it. (they also have a M36 Jackson listed, yeah right!)

Darkstar, the AEF kit is what I'm using. I have to agree, it's a lot of work. I'll probably rebuild the A-frame boom with plastic tubing, as the resin is (naturally) slightly warped. Many of the smaller pieces were incompletely cast, and this will be a challenge, especially the cable eyes. I'll finish it though, and that will probably be when the plastic version is released, as reported in the other messages above!
Nike Hercs, spent a year and a half with 1/43 ADA in AK, 1978-79. Impressive system but obsolete soon after their installation in 1959, as the Rooskies changed their "bomber fleet over the pole" tactics to that of single penetration attacks. Sure looked pretty in the winter sun against the snow,,,,,

Sorry, I must have missed this post eariler. Looks like the gang answered your question on the travel lock (that's what it's called). There isn't an elevation lock for the gun. There is a turret traverse lock inside at the loader's station that engages the turret ring teeth to prevent the turret from spinning. It's like the one on the M1 series tank.
